RUMOUR MILL, July 29: Saints must wait on Forster

Fraser Forster

Fraser Forster

First published in Football

Celtic are refusing to sell Fraser Forster to Saints until their Champions League fate is secured, so say the Daily Mail.

The Scottish champions play the first leg of their qualifier, against Legia Warsaw, tomorrow – and they will wait until next week’s second leg is out of the way before making a decision on the keeper’s future.

Saints have already had one bid rejected for Forster, but are set to return with an improved offer.

As if there wasn’t enough already, The Times reports more bad news, saying that right-back Nathaniel Clyne has joined Jose Fone and Jack Cork in considering their futures at the club.

They also say Saints may turn their attention to Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar, after Feyenoord centre—half Stefan de Vrij joined Lazio, while adding that they may also look at Norwichh midfielder Leroy Fer.

Elsewhere, troubled striker Dani Osvaldo is, according to the Mirror, in the final stages of agreeing a loan move to Inter Milan.

Obviously, there us also plenty on the possible departures of Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin to Spurs.

Les Reed need to get off his backside, grow a backbone, shut the floodgates and speak out to all us loyal Saints supporters justifying his actions this summer! Its an absolute joke of a situation. We've still not replaced the departed with players of an 'equal, if not better standard' and with £100m+ sat in our coffers why the hell have we not bought more players!? We've got just over two weeks until the start of the season and even with new players it takes time to gel and work out a formation! The only way is down in my opinion!

The situation demands a statement by the club - very quickly. We might have the biggest bank balance in the country but that will disappear when we lose our Premier League money next year. I have a feeling we ARE being readied to be sold. Maybe we'll get luck though and Nicola Cortese will buy it.

Pretty obvious to everyone now the club is being readied for disposal. Some players obviously saw the writing on the wall and got out quickly, others may have given the owners the benefit of the doubt and are now re considering their position.

It's not the situation that annoys me most, its the false statements and lack of communication. Lack of communication and transparency, we were lead to believe by KL, was a thing of the past once she got rid of Cortese...!

Generally there is NO CONFIDENCE that les reed and the rest of the board who are hiding in the shadows have the ability to DELIVER.

Les is lower league and is completely out of his DEPTH.

Nigel Adkins had ability but was unsupported by not getting quality players in - Poch delivered Osvaldo - and Koeman who is quality is again unsupported by not getting enough players in to add depth to the squad.

THE TIMES reports - SOUTHAMPTON all at sea over player exodus

READ and weep after the fight from the bottom of League One - these is where unintentional Owner Katherina - Ex Ice Hockey Krueger - and Les Reed have taken this Club - and back to the Championship we will surely go.

What a load of Rubbish........

Who says there are no players coming in?

Who has lied?

untill the end of the transfer window you are just guessing......

There is no way of keeping a player at a club that wants to leave, the club just has to get the most money possible for the player..... if you think otherwise you are mad. Bigger clubs buy the best talent, we have the best talent at the moment.

Stop being so dramatic and give the club the chance to bring players in and improve the situation..... all this negativity just makes it a harder sell to come to us.

Look at it as a great opportunity.... rather than a disaster.

We have a great manager, a great owner, a great youth development and a great big pile of cash!

I can't understand why 'motivational speaker extraordinaire' Ralph Krueger isn't now sitting down with each of the players we have left and explaining what's what, and making sure they hang around by putting their minds at rest about the future of the club.

I agree that 'usually' the Chairman shouldn't really be involved with the players, but this is a very unusual situation that needs some special interventions to stem the tide.

(Oh, and those hoping NC will be back with a bid I think are horribly mistaken: i. He said in his interview he would never be back here, and ii. don't you think the players would hang around if they knew the 'saviour' was coming back?!)

Yes as that is exactly how you get the most money from a sale........ Strip the assets!!!!???????

Do you really think they would have built that board, signed Koeman and co...... If it was just to make a quick buck?

What you are suggesting makes no business sense what so ever...... Oh yes there is also the fact that most transfer payments are made over a number of years....... So again what you are saying makes no sense. We are not trying to sell players....... We ar having to sell players as they want

There really is some arrant tripe being posted on here. For example "The players saw the writing on the wall". Footballers are not renowned for their brain power, that's why they have agents to tell them what to do. It's not their fault; the modern game makes them marketable commodities while they're still too young and daft to undertand the financial machinations. To sya that the likes of Liarlanna or Luke "Thick as a whale sandwich" Shaw were able to work out the deepest darkest motivations in the boardroom (which we still haven't been able to conclusively achieve after weeks of debate, argument and semi-literate abuse) is stretching the imagination somewhat.

Yes,it hurts that we've suddenly been slapped in the face by the reality that you can't compete at the highest levels AND remain a friendly little club with a family atmosphere. However I'm surely not alone in seeing the irony in the "Trophies at any cost" mentality, the apparent lack of which on the part of the board apparently equals "lack of ambition". This is exactly what the "plastics" at Man Ure, Citeh, Chelski etc get slagged off for on these pages: because they've lost sight of what it means to support a club for supporting's sake and believe Sky TV appearances and "experts" continuously praising their club means that they must be really knowledgeable about football, because they support a high-profile club.

This hunger for vicarious success is responsible in no small part for frustrated, directionless and often childish outpourings of inarticulate hate on here. If your club isn't successful this season then you risk appearing less knowledgeable, less successful yourself. The deep emotional ties that we feel for our club now that Political Correctness has made it unfashionable and slightly shameful to look to Church or Nationality as a source of pride run deeper than we might think and can make us do strange things.

But, hard as it may be, let's try to behave like the responsible adults that most of us are: wait for the evidence and make decisions based on that rather than crying ourselves to sleep in childish rage based on no more than speculation over a second- or third-hand interpretation of someone else's rumour.

No you are wrong it makes complete business sense.she will cash in over 100million in player sales then sell the club for about another 100 million.
Plus did you notice how the player sales payments were conducted, mostly cash up front.lallanas especially was close to complete cash.koeman was brought in to work wonders with nothing and keep the club in the EPL.then it will be sold.some people think that 200 million is a quick buck and nothing to kat but believe me she will see this as a great return and she will not think twice.this is a classic bust out and to deny defies logic.what do you think is happening? Putting aside player sales why do you fonte and cork are not signing new contracts? If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's probably a duck.
You say give the board time to bring in new players but they have had the chance, they just decided to bid 3.5 for Forster and the same for Redmond.hardball or stupidity or lack of funds? We have 3weeks until the start of the season and we would barely put out a team,ok we could but it would be a crap one.even koeman tweeted a message to les reed.

The frustration of the fans is caused totally by what is believed to be lies but most of all and indisputably by the virtual lack of information given to us. Stupid statements like "we are always sorry to lose young players from the Academy" etc, do nothing to allay our worries.

Frankly, I believe that not only does the Board not know how to try and keep players, which they said they would, they now do not have a clue as what to say to us.

What they should do is be honest and say "we are trying to get a position where we can sell this club (because we are not interested any more).

Now that is very sad, but I fear it may be true.

What a load of Rubbish........

Who says there are no players coming in?

We have a great manager, a great owner, a great youth development and a great big pile of cash!
aload of cash dont give you points players do and we aint got none wise up we are being stripped ready for a sale

How much longer do we give them? Until they've sold the tea lady?
Wake up mate we are being had.
Sorry..... I do not agree.

We have no idea how the payments are structured....In fact in most cases the actual value of the deal has not been confirmed, you are just believing what is reported in the press....... Have you seen the contracts?

But hey.... Wait until the end of the Window, it is the only way we will know. You could be correct, but then again so could I.

Wait for evidence? Hmmmm....ok think we've had a bit of that.
What are you saying? People can't show emotion? I like passionate people
Don't read too much into it,people are rightly angry and are venting.so let them.
But that's the point; there is NO evidence, just a series of events which are being interpreted by all and sundry to best suit the particular axe they have to grind. At best it's purely circumstantial.

There's nothing wrong with showing emotion, but when it crosses the line into hysteria, with people who claim to be supporters clearly wishing disaster on the club just so they can take twisted satisfaction in being "proved right" if it happens, then there is something seriously wrong.

And NO, it's not Les Reed's fault.

Saints have not sold players; people have come and bought our players - there's a subtle but very important difference.

Point to those who think KL is selling the players off to get a quick buck before selling the club - if that's the case, why did so many of the leavers say they were going on strike, and saying they would never play for the club again? If KL was so keen to cash in, she would have been driving them to Anfield herself, not trying to stop the sale and so forcing the players' hands like that.

What is happening is a kick in the teeth, and makes you wonder why we even bother trying, but it's happening because every year the top 6 look around at who they want to buy to strengthen their team. Usually that means picking off one or maybe two from the clubs who have done well, but this year it means that we have a whole bunch of them.

Players who are good enough for the top clubs don't see their future at Southampton because the way football is structured makes it next to impossible for us to compete with the big clubs either financially or on the pitch.

Proof? Off the pitch, to those saying we should pay more, Chelsea said that they couldn't afford to match the offers being made to our players. How are we supposed to match them, then? On the pitch, yes we played good football, but we ended up as close to the relegation zone as we did to the European places, and how many points did we take of the top ten? We couldn't even beat Cardiff at home, despite having what, 99% of the possession?

We are a million miles away from paying our players Champions' League wages, or from getting into that league on merit. And until that changes - which it won't - nothing we the fans, our board, or our owner, can do will stop our best players leaving.

So, let's change the system. First, and easiest, thing first. How many of you out their moaning have got SKY subscriptions? You can't complain about us losing players and still be contributing to the ridiculous inequality within the game that SKY has created. The only thing us fans can do is take money out of the game, and this is our easiest way of doing it. Rather than protest against our board, who's with me in an anti-SKY crusade?

untill the end of the transfer window you are just guessing......

Your not going to see that cash! Nor any players of any worth! God in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king!!!! (WAKE THE F UP) Talk about delusional?

Whilst I agree with a lot of what you say, the sale of players for a club in our relatively healthy position is unprecedented and could get worse if players such as Clyne, Fonte and Cork leave. Have you known an exodus of players like this before in such a short space of time? We have had 5 years of growth through a combination of good management (Pardew, Adkins and Poch), a staedy flow of investment in new players and nurturing our young guns. I want to be optimistic, I want to look forward to the new season but to see all of this fall apart within a few weeks after our most successful season in the premier league is a very hard pill to swallow. How can a 19 year old, and more to the point a 19 year old who for a large part of the season was not even our first choice right back, call all the shots? If we cannot stand in his way, what chance have we of stopping others from leaving what was once a wonderful cruise liner to something that now resembles the Titanic. All I hope is that they have more life boats on board this one!

We have a great manager, a great owner, a great youth development and a great big pile of cash!
aload of cash dont give you points players do and we aint got none wise up we are being stripped ready for a sale

Come on man, most of the older ones that have left I completely concur, but you mean to tell me Les Reed could not have got Calum Chambers not to stick it out for one more year? If he cannot do that he is in completely the wrong job.

If we had of been strong after Lambert went and simply blocked Lallana going things would not have dominoed as they have. We have been extremely week.

How is it Villa have not yet sold Vlar and issued a simple not for sale statement? Are you saying we are completely powerless? I agree, players pull the strings but come off it, five players all allowed to walk??

Something is very wrong.

First, apologies for accusing you of aiming bile at the board the other day. I must have got you muddled up with someone else.

Ask yourself again about Chambers. Was he pulling the strings or was it Arsenal pulling them? It seems Chambers made it very clear he didn't want to stay. I'm sure he didn't do that in a vacuum or simply because he saw himself as the next domino in line. I expect he did it because Arsenal made it very clear they wanted him. They have probably also promised to make it very lucrative for him too.

No apologies required, there is someone with a similar tag now namely NewForestSaint.

Even though I have no doubt some underhand tactics have been used I am sure if someone really sat down and played the old 'come on, give it one more year as we have looked after you' card I think he could have been persuaded. Unless he wanted out before now and said simply I will give you six months etc.

I just think that the club needed to simply say that's it, the door is closed to stop this happening.

They cannot do it now though as players really would strike. Could you imagine us saying sorry Morgan, you stay. He would simply go you let the others go why not me to be followed by that's it, not willing to play for you now.

I am baffled by the whole thing but simply am at the stage of just laughing. You have to admit, its comical being a SFC fan.
