Lallana could miss Saints clash through injury

First published in Football

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana could miss the game with his former club, Saints, on the opening weekend of the season after injuring his knee.

The 26-year-old, who moved to Anfield from St Mary's earlier this month, sustained a knock to his lateral collateral ligament during a session at the Reds' Harvard University training base in Boston.

Although no timeframe has been placed on a return to fitness, such injuries can result in a spell of anywhere up to six weeks on the sidelines.

Saints travel to Liverpool on August 17.

Let's not forget that he was well compensated for those years of service buddy. He stayed long enough to cash in on his big payday. I say S-C-R-E-W him for his lack of loyalty!

Think I may still enjoy the outing. Actually considering printing a banner telling Brenda to **** off our players. Any witty suggestions on what to print? May just pick the best one and do it

Can someone at the club please make a statement to explain why this non-selling club is still selling players? Lallana,Lambert and Shaw we could live with. Chambers, Schneiderlin, and Lovren is an absolute disaster with Osvaldo to boot. Seven regular first team players plus speculation about Clyne, Cork, Fonte sees the entire first team distributed amongst the Premiership. Only Davies and the youngsters remain. All we want to hear is an explanation why, and that it is for the good of the club. Maybe the Acadamy needs to build loyalty training into its program. Why Southampton and not every other club in the Premiership!?! Rant over, just can't quite believe what has happened.

Well you come up with a list of, say maybe 20 players in the history of the premier league that have stayed at one club then! It's just the way it is - players come and go and when clubs are throwing silly money at you, then sometimes you have to bite their hands off!

Lallana, irrespective of the service he gave the club, deliberately made his own position, at the club, untenable.
You can blame the "inept board" if it makes you feel better, but when the club most needed Lallana to step up to the plate and help steady the ship, he made the biggest waves possible in an attempt to capsize it.

I understand the bitterness towards Lallana (which for those who were not there was strongly in evidence at Bournemouth last night) because what he said about dreaming about playing for a club like Liverpool one day whilst still Saints captain was frankly crass and insensitive. However unlike the like`s of Walcott, Bale, Ox and Shaw whatever happens in the future he will always be remembered as a Southampton player first and foremost because this is where he spent the vast majority of his career. So personally whilst I was disappointed about the way in which he left I can`t let a few badly chosen words after the season had ended over shadow the years of great entertainment that he gave us.

He has always been prone to injury. We were pretty lucky with him in that respect last season, so perhaps its a good thing he has moved on to spend more time counting his money while sat on the treatment table. Personally think his career will move downwards from this point on and that the fee we got was well over the top.
