Ronald Koeman was pleased with his side’s performance in the friendly victory at Swindon.
Saints made it three wins from three in pre-season with a 1-0 success at the County Ground, as they stepped up preparations for the new campaign.
“I think it was a good performance,” he said. “It was a good match. I think we played well.
“We started well from the beginning. We got some good possibilities.
“Maybe in front of the goal we need to be a little bit better, but in general it was a good match and a good win.”
Koeman was missing Dejan Lovren and Steven Davis through slight injuries, while Dusan Tadic remained in Holland ahead of a work permit hopefully being approved this week.
That meant further opportunities for a number of young players, with five academy graduates starting the match.
“I’m happy about the young players,” said Koeman. “It’s a great opportunity for them. We do still not have everyone on board, and that gives them opportunities.”
