Southampton confirm signing of Dusan Tadic from FC Twente for £11m

Basingstoke Gazette: Dusan Tadic Dusan Tadic

Saints have confirmed the signing of Dusan Tadic for a fee believed to be around £11m.

The 25-year-old Serbian has signed a four deal to seal his switch from FC Twente and become Ronald Koeman’s first St Mary’s signing.

Tadic is seen as the ideal replacement for Adam Lallana and comes with an outstanding reputation.

He enjoyed an outstanding season with Twente last term, scoring 16 goals from midfield and helping the team to a third-place finish.

He also provided 14 assists and created an eye-catching total of 133 chances – in both categories, he led the way by some considerable distance in the Eredivise.

Tadic, who made his international debut at 19, has been capped 25 times by his country.

He has also attracted interest from both Schalke and Sevilla this summer, but Saints have won the race for his signature.

Tadic said: "It is a really nice feeling, this is a really nice club of which I have heard a lot of good things about.  I have already seen the beautiful training centre and there are lots of nice people that work here including the coaches so I am really happy to be here.

Basingstoke Gazette: Dusan Tadic

"I watched a lot of the games last season and saw that the Club plays really nice football which will suit me because I like to play in the same way.  The manager obviously knows me from the Dutch league so when he called me and told me his plan it was an easy decision to make.

"I know the manager well because he is one of the biggest Dutch legends in football, everyone knows him.  He is a really good coach and you can always expect his teams to play well because he is leading them and because he is so good tactically.  I am really excited to start playing for the club."

Koeman added: “It was very important to get this signing done – not only for me, but for the rest of the squad and for our fans. It’s fantastic news.

“We’ve lost some good players but we want to continue the ambition and philosophy of the club, so it’s a great signal to have brought in our first player.

“He’s a great player. I know him very well from Holland, where he had a great season last year.

“We now look forward to bringing in more players because we want to continue and maybe even better what Southampton did last season.”

Not really a Helpful comment.

It presupposes that our new Manager is untried, unskilled with absolutely no knowledge of players from the Dutch League. FC Twente were 3rd in the Dutch League last season and 5th the year before - just a bit better than the Saints.

Could you please explain the total lack of ambition

Excellent news!
Anyone who thinks this shows a lack of ambition, who do you want to see at St Mary's? The best thing a club can do is buy the best from leagues around the world. This guy seems to be the best midfielder in Eredivisie by a country mile.
I hope we can now look forward to the revolving doors getting stuck in the opposite direction to which it has been over the last fortnight, with some more decent signings.
Welcome to Southampton, Dusan. Give us 100% every time you pull on a shirt and we'll soon forget the mercenaries that have left!

Great first signing!! No, not a lack of ambition but spot on for a team going for another 8th or higher position. Are we gonna sign Paul Pogba, or Arturo Vidal or another of these big boys, NO!! But that's OK by me let's scour Europe and the kids of England and piece together another great young team! Sell one for 25mil and buy one for 11 mil, that's sounds like good business to me!! Now let's bring in a few more and really get behind the team and the players who actually want to play for us. And you know what if we sell this dude next year to Liverpool for 30mil, then so be it, we move on and rely on our own scouting networks to find the gems, and count the cash!!

What a great signing, it's all starting to fall into place.

We could do with another player of Dusans calibre for the right side or maybe play Clyne and Chambers together.
A couple more hitmen up front, a couple of centre backs, a left back and some competition for the No1 spot.
Then just a few more players to bolster the squad.

Not much to ask for, is it?

I don't expect having a high profile compatriot in the team will make any difference to DL; all he sees is others moving on for bigger salaries and his deluded sense of entitlement makes him think he can have some of that as well. I trust he will hate playing in the reserves.
In the meantime someone needs to tell Tadic that we don't go much on Ronaldo style poses at our football club; by all means celebrate but keep your shirt on mate!

It presupposes that our new Manager is untried, unskilled with absolutely no knowledge of players from the Dutch League. FC Twente were 3rd in the Dutch League last season and 5th the year before - just a bit better than the Saints.

Out - our best player and captain Lallana
-our best striker Lambert
- our best young star Shaw
With Lovren our best defender also on his way ,Osvaldo and probably more as well

In - Tasic

An ambitious club tries to improve ....so far koeman has plugged one gap . A long long long long long way from showing ambition to improve

Strange how a Top Signing like this is ignored / minor news, just goes to show that only good news for the 'Top 6' is relevant to those monkeys !!

Seed and ECHO ...

everton manage to keep their finances in check and challenge for CL Place.

They have got some years in at this position in the PREM and have worked out a SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC MODEL.

TAKE NOTE SFC

They QUELL Player unrest and moves by urgrading contracts. James McCarthy had signed a 4 year deal and when there was interest from the TOP 4 - they signed him up on a one year extension taking his wage from £30,000 to £50,000 a week.

Shamus Coleman LB only cost everton 65,000 - got a sniff of interest from Arsenal at cuurent valuation £12 Million -so upgraded his pay to a reported £30,000 a week.

DIFFERENCE between coleman and SHAW is that is fully developed at that position and SMASHED IN 10 GOALS.

everton then have to use TV money and money from sales such as fellani at 27 Milion and Jel..... to Hull to sustain their WAGE BILLS with Jags and Baines on 70,000 and Barklay going to be offered 50,000 for their LOYALTY.

like arse-nil - SOUTHAMPTON FC are managong their finances well and a WIN for the FANS is to be in the TOP GROUPING - TOP 8 MIX - rubbing shoulders and beating manure spuds everton liversh1te etc.

SUSTAIN THE LEAGUE - WIN SILVERWARE.

NEVER GOING TO GO THE manure - citeh - chelski route - of being HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS IN DEBT.

TOP HALF TOP LEAGUE PLACING - WEMBLEY APPEARANCE - EUROPEAN PLACING - ARE ALL WINS FOR SAINTS FANS.

mid table mediocracy is never tolerated by the Saints Faithful !!

It also fails to mention that he refused to put the shirt on because he didn't,t like the fact that Adidas didn't design it. And then he said that he had never heard of the shirt sponsors and until they got in Virgin or Microsoft he was going on strike. Asked if he fancied playing alongside a Croat he said yeah he was looking forward to headbutting the complete disrespectful tw@t and was hoping to get a bit of advice from dopey Dani on that score.

Reas an article on NewsNews by Will Burns on this guy, it was mouth watering he plays on the left or behind the striker, he has pace, can strike a ball, go round or in inside a player. He is one of the most accurate passers of the ball and crossers in football and has an art of defence splitting passses. He is younger than Al and a seasoned international not an international bit player. Hopefully he settles and rips a hole in the premier league.
Last season our last third play was far too slow with the exception of Jay, we now need Pelle and another striker. So we have pace up front. Hopefully this guy will have us saying Adam who?

Just because you like me don't know loads about Tadic doesn't mean he's not going to be a great signing for Saints. Give Koeman and the club a break. We can't want it both ways if I moan about a lack of signings and the club make one that is costing 11m I can't then moan "oh he's no good" just makes us look a bit silly. Give the guy a chance you never know Jason he might just be amazing and exactly what the club needs to replace Lallana.

Seems a quality signing so hope he sets the Prem alight next season. Expect to see 3 or 4 top quality signings soon. Then that sould help convince Morgan to stay and be our captain. It may also make Lovren change his mind !!
Getting a fee (not a loan deal) for Osvaldo may be the only other player leaving. A LB and Striker to replace the other two and the other arrivals can only make us better than last season.
Warning RonKo you need to keep some cash back for January because not all the new signings will perform in the Prem.

Finally, Thanks to Marcus, you will always be remembered with our gratitude. Your face at Wembley will stay with us forever !

I do not want us to conquer the world, I do not really care about global brand ( helpful though) I want every nipper to have red and white SFC in their veins…10 year project however once inplace it will be unstoppable.

Proof positive is for all pfc's 'loyalty' I can remeber their crowds at 9000, most people supported Chelsea etc back in 70's 80's and yet within Portsea there is not a plastic shirt in sight today..they can do it we can do it but x 10…

Yes it's probably not realistic to move again so soon. But the cost of a facelift and extension has to be weighed up against putting that money into new. It's the old chicken and egg - better league performance fills ground but usually requires better players on higher wages, which in turn requires higher income.

???? Erm ..i never said he was no good . I have no idea if he is great or rubbish , and of course every player should have a fair chance .

My point was we have lost 3 top top players , with at least 2 more to follow them ...and (so far ) brought in 1 ...hardly cause for celebration .

I am very sceptical of Koemans credentials as a manager , and any player from the poor dutch league ..lets hope my concerns are unjustified

found this little gem ,

Liverpool manager Brenda Rodgers is set to sell Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva to help fund a move for Southampton’s Dejan Lovren.
The Reds have already had a £20m offer for the Croatia international turned down.
According to the Express, Saints are holding out for £25m for their star defender, and Liverpool are prepared to sell Lucas in order to bring their main transfer target to Anfield.

so looks like we were right and diverpooh have been looking down the back of the sofa for the extra money to buy liellana!
if I was a diverpooh fan I would be very worried that despite getting £80mill soon for old vampire himself they are struggling to fund a transfer even though they have only spent £39mill so far with £20mill for the turncoat that would have gone to £59mill. that leaves £21mill and they cant find £5mill from that? a `big club` like diverpooh should be showing more `ambition` in the market, don't tell the turncoat they are lacking ambition and selling their best players whilst we are signing good replacements, he might want to stay!

so looks like we were right and diverpooh have been looking down the back of the sofa for the extra money to buy liellana!
if I was a diverpooh fan I would be very worried that despite getting £80mill soon for old vampire himself they are struggling to fund a transfer even though they have only spent £39mill so far with £20mill for the turncoat that would have gone to £59mill. that leaves £21mill and they cant find £5mill from that? a `big club` like diverpooh should be showing more `ambition` in the market, don't tell the turncoat they are lacking ambition and selling their best players whilst we are signing good replacements, he might want to stay!
Trouble is after tonight they'll be luck to get 50p for him!

???? Erm ..i never said he was no good . I have no idea if he is great or rubbish , and of course every player should have a fair chance .

I am very sceptical of Koemans credentials as a manager , and any player from the poor dutch league ..lets hope my concerns are unjustified
You say that you're very sceptical of any player from a poor Dutch league. Well, here's a couple of thoughts.

1. Luis Suarez played in that poor league:
2006–2007 Groninge
n 29 matches, 10 goals
2007–2011 Ajax 110 matches, 81 goals
2011– Liverpool 110 matches, 69 goals

When he's not biting people, he's not half bad.

2. Here's the Dutch team that reached the WC semis last Saturday (and the team they play for now, or were at aged 26 - Tadic's age):
Cillessen (Ajax), Vlaar (Feyenoord), de Vrij (Feyenoord), Martins Indi (Feyenoord), Blind (Ajax), Sneijder (Inter), Kuyt (Feyenoord), Wijnaldum (PSV), van Persie (Arsenal), Robben (Bayern), Depay (PSV).

So, apart from the three big names, who did of course start out in the Eredivisie, eight of the team that have already done so well in Brazil currently play in that poor Dutch league you mention, or did so when they were Tadic's age. My guess is it isn't as poor as you say.

My guess is it isn't as poor as you say.
now now stras your using facts to prove a point again, how many times have you been told about that! ;0)

Speak for yourself. This particular Saints fan completely disagrees with what Beattie was saying. I am very excited about the forthcoming season and believe that overall we are in a better position than this time last year.
Agreed with Churchill.

I will not listen to James, ( acomplete Saints legend to me who never quite made the grade but very, very close).

Anyone can make negative comments.

I am only interested in giving the Club support - that is 100% and unquestioning. Anyone can do the negative bit but I believe it's a test of character for both Player and Supporter to show that support at the most difficult times.

Ralph read this and learn.
Good point warrens, unlike all other Prem clubs we do have a geographical catchment bigger than most with an increasing population. Saints must take more advantage of this especially with Poopy's current demise. They have their core support and B'mouth theirs but otherwise we do have a 50 to 60 mile radius in which all children could be enlisted as Saints supporters for the future.

Many things can be done to assist this including, say three school visit per week with at least two players present at each and giving out saints shirts to all they meet at each school and all under 16's who buy a season ticket. Before long a very large number of kids will be wearing the shirt and pressuring parents to come and watch Saints.

Another key is that the team must keep playing attractive football and doing well with a trophy hear and there like winning the Cup.

Finally an idea that I have been saying for years is that Saints should do is to have a section of the ground specifically for school children. FREE Tickets for this would be given to a rotation of schools throughout the 50 mile radius for every game. These kids will always make some noise and will spend in the catering and merchandising outlets. Some will want to come again and push their parents into taking them. This can be done to fill the stadium in games where we don't fill the stadium but could be up to 3k to 5k for some games if the stadium capacity was increased to a 50K capacity.

Add other schemes and a large increase of future supporters will be generated, paying for tickets for many years to come.

Anyone have any other ideas for investing in the future ?

The point being that all clubs including Saints have bought in players from abroad with good credentials that have failed to succeed in the Prem for one reason or another.

If we are signing 5 or 6 players then history shows that one or two may not be what we would have hoped they would be and with a potential injury problem, then RonKo may need reinforcements come January.
