EMOTIONS are running high amongst many Saints fans, as the club comes to terms with the departure of Adam Lallana.

As revealed earlier, the England midfielder took out a full page advert inside today's Daily Echo to say thanks to the supporters who have cheered him on over the years.

We want to know how Saints fans feel towards the player - has his leaving soured the memories or do they wish him well in his new endeavours?

My heart is Saints, all the time and every time, so any reaction to disrespecting my club, whoever it is, will be highly emotional.

I just want to move forward and see our bveloved Saints take the next step up.

However, Lallana has left a very sour taste. Not with his decision, I can understand the economics, but with the apparent petulent bahaviour he, and let's not forget his advisers, have undertaken to force his move. I am dissapointed if the club did not make him enter a transfer request if he was so desparate for his move to Liverpool. Why should he be allowed to cash in on an almost new long term contract so readily?

In addition, his interview yesterday...yes, wants to appeal to his new 'fans'...but I just read it as everything he said about Liverpool being such an exciting team etc..etc..etc... was by default saying Saints was not. That is disrespectful in the utmost!

His advert was an ill advised PR stunt that just made him look even more egotistical.

Look at Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw's statements.

However, he is history now, and not in the way he could or should have been.

We are Southampton FC, and NO one person is bigger than OUR club, nor should ever be!

Roll on 16th August!!!

What upset me the most was the total lack of respect for the Club and fans in the comments he made on Liverpool TV. He inferred that he was bigger than the Club which was never going to win anything and he joined Liverpool to win things. Why not be honest and admit it was the money. The way he handled his departure negated all he had achieved at the Club. Adapting the words of Terry Malloy in On The Waterfront "I could have been someone, I could have been a legend instead of an arse which is what I am".

He should explain why he was badge patting end of season, why he spoke to Liverpool , then seemingly as an afterthought placed an Ad in the Echo. Full page ad, was this saying 'look at the money I'm on, I can afford a full page ad'?

When I hear a satisfactory answer to the badge thing I might think more of him. but I hoe he enjoys Liverpool, and let's see him pat the badge there!

Personally, I think the last question should be about reaction to the manner of his leaving, not his leaving per se. He is entitled to leave - he's not a slave - but many people are upset about the way in which he brought it about and the comments he made in the aftermath. The ad in the DE is a damage limitation PR exercise, I would think, and is unlikely to make those of us aggrieved by his earlier comments think better of him at this moment in time. Still, the dust will soon settle, and hopefully some perspective on his time at Saints will be achieved, especially if we stuff Liverhampton next season! COYS!!

He threw his toys out of his pram and refused to play for us if the board didn't let him go to Liverpool.
He's not only stuck two fingers up to the club but the fans as well.

Most fans are not angry that he has left but by the way he has gone about it. He's basically said that he's too good for Saints, that's what has upset a lot of fans.

The advert is just to try and smooth things over so he doesn't get a hard time from Saints fans when he comes back to St Marys. He could have said thanks in his interview with the Scouse tv but was too busy saying how brilliant both he and Liverpool were.

There are too many Saints players who think they are too good for Saints, as did the previous manager, who towards the end of the season was telling the world that Lallana was as good as the top midfielders in Europe. Nothing like trying to create a bit of interest in a player.

Adam showed loyalty when we were in League 1 and he ignored Premiership Clubs. He then was essential in our climb to the higher reaches of the Premiership. He saw the 5 year project through and was unclear what the next project is. At his peak, he had the chance of challenging for honours and Champions League football. He was anxious that Saints would price him out of the move - leaving us with a disgruntled and disruptive player. Best for all that he's gone and Good Luck Adz!

For months Saints fans proudly cheered Rickie, Adam and Luke on towards the World Cup. We felt it was an honour for our club.

Turned out before a ball was kicked, all three were going to leave and indeed have now left - with more World Cup players seemingly destined to do so (Lovren/Spiderman). Success for them meant the chance of more money and more glory elsewhere.

UInderstandable maybe, But fans feel sore and 'used' and that's understandable too.

Rickie's departure was understood by almost all and Luke's at least felt like a good deal for the club. Adam's departure, however, with a gun to the club's head (no doubt made known to Liverpool and thus crippling the club's negotiating position) left a sour note - and that's very evident by the extremely short and terse announcement made by the club on the official site.

It wasn't good and Adam knows it. He's lost the respect of the fans because he lost his respect for the club they love.

His advert is a meaningless gesture but at least suggests that he feels some guilt at walking out on Saints, the club which made him what he now has become, an England player.

We'll see how he does at Liverpuddle where the pressure on him to perform will be far greater. I recall how a couple of season ago he tried to win penalties by diving. He wasn't very good at it. Maybe Liverpuddle can teach him to do it better; he can take over the diving role from Suarez!

My farewell wish to Judas Lallana is: 'Break a leg!'. Others can decide whether that's a good or a bad luck wish.

Personally I think he's made a complete arse of himself & lost all respect, not just of Saints fans, but Football fans in general.
Last April he signed a 5yr contract with the Club, hoping that he would end his career here and be placed in as high esteem as MLT is with the fans, Club captain, adored by the fans(how much is that worth?), and after his Medical problems when he was younger was well on the way to being a true Saint.
But no, saw that the grass on the other side looked greener and he's moved.
That, although disapointing, as everyone thought that he'd be the one to be a one Club player, engineered a move away from SFC, saying that he would have refused to play for us again had the Club not accepted Liverpool's offer.
This is what sticks in the throat of most Saints Fans, Club player, players player & tea ladies player of the year obviously meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.
I say we move on, lets hope we sign Tadic, who looks & sounds like a real gem, and build a strong team and have good season next year.

It wasn't that long ago Lallana said he was very happy and excited for the future to play for Southampton and wanted to be part of the revolution and to aim for CLF by finishing high in the Premier League and help Southampton be a top club. He will never convince many if any whatever he says because his reason has to be money, IMO he was under the spell of Potchettino and his conspiracy and knew the truth of what would happen at the end of last season so it he didn't want to play for Southampton next season, it was as if Lallana told Potchettino if you are going so am I so I'll call my Agent to tell him to find me a Club. Clatenberg was probably bang on the money with his description earlier in the season. I happen to think we will replace him with better players and the money gives us the ability to strengthen a very thin squad. So next season consolidate in top 8 and definately a good cup run.

Agree with your last paragraph, and what is ironic is that as a team, playing for Southampton, last season, they made most other teams look ordinary, and with two or three additions this season, would've been able to make every other team look ordinary.
Still, that brings us back to what is going on behind the scenes as to the present board's ambitions, and the effect the knowledge of that, may or may not of had on the decisions of many of last seasons players and manager, and indeed, the Chairman, to abandon ship halfway through the Voyage.

Nothing like trying to create a bit of interest in a player.[/p]
My advice would have been either - stick to your contract and leave at the end or work through this next season having told the manager that at the end of the season they would ask for a transfer or ask for a raise due to their increased worth to the club (and accepted no if that's what the reply was because they were already under contract)

What Liarllana has engineered (over a long period of time by all acounts) is despicable, underhanded, disloyal and dishonest.

it's sad, but not unexpected given he's a cash-cow for his agent, who I suspect may not be acting in AL's best interests.

Just my opinion.

I think it's good business for a player who wanted to leave, and will only be a squad player at Liverpool. £25m!! Liverpool are foolish to pay that for a player who only has one trick up his sleeve and commits too many fouls when trying to recover the ball. We've got our monies worth out of him, now let's kick on and get someone genuinely better.

So MOPO puts out weakened sides in the Cup competitions yet Lallana never complained at the lack of ambition by MOPO?
Why didn't he as captain question that decision? A Cup win & European football isn't that what he wanted?
Or was it to have Rickie Lambert holding his hand & a big pay cheque whilst being in the B side?

This whole sorry business stinks and I feel there should be an enquiry as to what lies behind it. Any player is entitled to leave but why has nearly half the team decided to leave at the end of what has been possibly the best year in the Clubs history. Lallana, Ward, and Levren had only recently sighed long term contracts and waxed lyrical over there futures here. Now we hear Spider wants to go. This is no coincidence and there are several suspects that come to mind. Did Poch who never had any intention of staying after Cortese left turn their heads, was it anything to with Hodgson and his constant presence at St Marys with 3 of our players being selected for England. Has mixing with other England players played its part. Was Lambert taken by Liverpool to influence Lallana to move. After all much as we loved Ricky does anyone really believe that Liverpool need him as a player. And as for "returning home" Liverpool never even wanted him to begin with. Is it about keeping SFC out of the elete "Club" at the top of the Premiership. What I am saying here is that there are an awful lot of questions to be answered as it could set the Club back for a long time . Lets hope that the opposite happens and our new Manager brings in even better players than those leaving. One thing is certain there are plenty who are.

Get over it, anyone would make the move if you were in Lallana's position. Huge wages and a real chance of trophies, plus playing with much better players. Im a Saints fan, yes, but you cant begrudge him the move. Liverpool are a much bigger club, and much more ambitious. Im sure Lallana would have stayed if Pochettino agreed to stay. He probably saw Mo Po leaving, like I do - the board lacking ambition by not keeping him by way of not commiting to keep our best players and offering a decent transfer budget. The club demonstrated a total lack of ambition the day Cortese left. A man who by all accounts would have not sold our best players and kept Poch. Face reality, we are a feeder club. The same will happen to Koeman if he has a good season - he'll be off.

So tell me how a manager who loved the club, had a great team and were on the verge of real success, get up and leaves for a team that haven't been in the top 4 for ages. That said we probably needed 3 more top class players to really challenge for Europe, the fact Mo Po couldn't even be offered that is saying last season was as good as itll ever get! So tell me how a player would not interpret that is showing no ambition for the future!

I think Koeman is much more a man of honour than MoPo due to the fact that he saw out his 3year contract at Feyenorde and was thanked by their fans when he left.

Gullit was on SKY this morning and was saying the price is silly because he is English. He reckons players equally as good can be got in Europe for around £6million. So far we have stitched up both Skiverpool and Manure for a huge pile of cash. Better players to follow.

So as I've said before half way through close season a manager, three possibly five or six regular first teamers gone after our most sucessful season in many a year. Almost, and with a little more belief, broke into the elite seven who have been the top seven for many seasons. The press have led a lot of fans to believe that the club is in meltdown. Several fans believe that this is a "fire sale" and the chairman and the owner are selling off assets before selling the club. Surely, if you are aiming to sell something you don't get rid of the biggest assets but that's by the way. On one of the last MOTD of the season Mr Hanson said it was inevitable that Saints would lose a lot of players over the summer...the papers were saying it on the Monday after the last day, Sky sports news was full of these stories, as England gathered Hodgson was stating that it was inevitable and urging Saints to get on and settle for their lot. Is it a conspiracy? Are no clubs allowed to break in to the Premier ship elite? We shall see what the reaction is from the above in the new season, especially when our "new" team win at Anfield on day one Will Woy be at ST Marys to see Ward-Prowse, Chambers, Cork Clyne etc all of whom are on the fringes of an England call up? Will the papers and the rest of the media praise the new attacking style of Koeman's boys? Or will there be "barbed" comments and downgrading to also rans before we've even begun. Most pundits had us at 11th or 12th last season in their predictions wonder what they'll make of us now.

you still just don't get it do you!
most people accept that players move on ffs its football it happens and we all know it!
what people are upset over, and this is the important part, is his comments to lfctv and to the saints board! the fact he told the board that he would never play for them again if they didn't accept diverpooh`s offer is quite frankly outrageous behaviour! as others have said look at how rickie left the club, very emotional, and he has only been here 4yrs! even luke said the right things and whilst people are annoyed he wanted out they again accept it. if you want to see how the club feel about him go on the OS and look at the statements the club made after luke and rickies departures, going as far as to say rickie was welcome back anytime, and compare them to lallas statement! luke might have upset the board by asking to leave but he seems to have done it in a mature fashion, the club are obviously very, very annoyed with lallas attitude and the way he went about forcing a move.

Totally agree with your comments. We ruffled a lot of feathers last season. I hope and pretty we are able to stay in the top 8 this coming season.
Predictive text, such a pain. Gets me too! Help!

For "pretty" freeroamer meant "pray". Can we turn this silly "help" off the computer? Makes one look so daft.

I hope we have said enough about the disloyal Lallana.

But the problem for most/everyone is the way it has gone. From kissing the badge, signing a contract, revealing a special vest to wish Mum a "Happy Birthday" when he scored, picked for England, upsetting a good ref, saying he dreamt of playing for a great club like Liverpool, telling Saints he will not play for them again etc....

Of course, anyone who doubles (or whatever) their earnings is likely to s.d off, so that is understood. But Adam, style is what you need, ask Rickie, and boy you ain't got it. Stuff your Echo advert and Liverpool!

You say about the boards ambitions as to the reason why the players, previous chairman and manager left.
So far, the board have appointed Ronald Koeman, a top quality manager, finished off the training ground at a massive cost, sold the wantaway players for decent sums of money and they look like signing a couple of quality replacements for Rickie and Lallana in Pelle and Tadic.
I'm sure there'll be more quality signings to come.
So where is the lack of ambition?
I also think the previous chairman is a nasty piece of work, yes he persuaded Marcus to buy the club, but at the same time, he thought it was his club.
Khatarina wouldn't let him have his own way and he walked, it wouldn't surprise me that he thought he was the one who saved the Saints and because he didn't get what he wanted, he tried to rip the club apart.
He's done a fairly good job with the help of the previous manager who was his puppet.
Don't you think it was strange when he did an interview two days before the Argie walked saying how none of this would have happened if he was still here.
We'll see at the start of the season what sort of ambition the board have, if the Echo comments section are full of fans talking about a top 4 finish and European football we can rule out that lack of ambition was the reason for everyone wanting to leave.

Liverpool were recently close to bankruptcy .As I've already said MOPO sent out a weakened side in the Cups.MOPO was in charge after Christmas when our point collection took a nose dive(losing to Cardiff is just one sus result) .
Could it be MOPO knew he was going didn't want Saints in Europe so scuppered any chance we had?
Wasn't Lallana Captain of that team? what was his reasons why Saints suddenly went of the boil?
We were all saying we needed a back up Goalie why didn't we get one? we've bought so called big name players yet still the squad couldn't do it .
Lallana wasn't the great player people & himself are making themselves out to be why else would we need a blitz attack if we had a great midfield player?
Who's Liverpool going to drop to fit him in? Gerrard?Couthinio?
As for Shaw where's he going to play at Man U?
Maybe this clear out could be a blessing in disguise ? buy new players bring through the really talented youngsters then stck two fingers up to Lallana as he sits watching the game from the stands

Good post. This is how my mind was working when I posted earlier. Obviously there is a lot of feeling about Lallana and rightly so. Sure any player has a right to move but this is not all about Lallana anyway and has its origins in the moment Cortese left the club when he failed get his own way. Changing the subject - is there any further news on Osvaldo. Surely he is in breach of contract if he fails to return for duty and should not be paid?

I cant believe some of the comments on here! He gave you years of service in the dark days and has been a real part of the growth. Whether you like it Liverpool are a much bigger club and as a player you want to be in the mix - especially the Champions league. if any one of you say you would have done the same thing you are lying - of course you would.

He was respectful enough to delay the decision until the end of the season and it was all sorted - the club were always going to sell him - it was just how much the club could add to the asset stripping coffers - FACT! Why would all of the main players want to leave to go to clubs that are in with a chance of winning things - the fact is Southampton will never spend the money on players to get the club into the mix of Europa (if you want that) or Champions League football. Add to that the club want the money then I for one don't blame any of them. Get used to it guys because its not over yet! ... Dejan will go, Morgan will go - what a fantastic servant he has been and if he gets one ounce of stick you should be ashamed.

Next season I suspect is one where you wont enjoy the ride ... sad but inevitable - dont blame the players leaving - blame the Board!

Well the truth is,we just don't know do we?Which was the point I was(possibly ineptly from your response) trying to make.
The only thing that is unarguable, is that from the time Cortese (like him or not)arrived to the time he left, the club was on an unstoppable track in an upwards direction, which only faltered after his departure.
With Cortese in charge you knew exactly where you stood, and exactly what you were going to get.Hand on heart,no one can honestly say that they have that kind of confidence now.
When you get the top players, the manager, who up to the time of his departure, was being heralded as the best thing since sliced bread, and an undeniably successful chairman, all suddenly departing a club which had total success tantalisingly within its grasp, the only question you can ask is why?So far,the only conclusion that you can come to is lack of ambition(for reasons which may or may not become clear) on the part of those ultimately in control of the management of the clubs destiny, which is not the players, not the manager, and not even the chairman if he hasn't got the support of those who ultimately pull all the strings.

Nothing like trying to create a bit of interest in a player.[/p]
Agree with your last paragraph, and what is ironic is that as a team, playing for Southampton, last season, they made most other teams look ordinary, and with two or three additions this season, would've been able to make every other team look ordinary. Still, that brings us back to what is going on behind the scenes as to the present board's ambitions, and the effect the knowledge of that, may or may not of had on the decisions of many of last seasons players and manager, and indeed, the Chairman, to abandon ship halfway through the Voyage.[/p]
I am sure the advert was only placed due to the fact that Liverpool play still mighty Saints at the start of the season, I have no doubt Lallana will receive a warm welcome (Warmer than he'd hoped for) obviously not as warm as SRL will get, and rightly so, Lambert will be more sorely missed than Lallana, who was regularly substituted by our former, now Spuds manager. Good luck to the new Regime and Welcome to the Future GREAT SAINTS TEAM, Onwards and Upwards.

All footballers are mercenaries. They will go where they get the best offers, not just money but new opportunities.
What is disappointing is that there was such a good family atmosphere at Southampton last season. Those that move on may find it hard to adjust.
Let's hope we can keep as many of the family as possible and promote as many of the younger members of the family - Ward-Prowse, Gallagher, Harrison Reed and others - and bring in a few players who can blend in easily. Don't be impatient - it took a few years to get to 8th place and staying there will always be a great achievement for Saints.

The board shouldnt of let him go end of story. The only name I will be getting on my shirt this season will be Le God who Lallana will never be. Then he has the nerve to say we are forever in his heart but he didnt think about that when all he had was money on his mind! For me he can stick his thanks where the sun dont shine. Money grabber. In fairness to him an advert doesn't cost that much. I put one in the Echo selling my old Blackburn shirt. Nobody called.

You have no idea what goes on within the club, or his reasons for moving on... Grow up! If he was you son, brother or husband you'd be encouraging him to play at the highest level he can! He probably thought he was doing a good thing taking out that advert, and saying a huge thank you!!!

You don't know what was said either! We do know what he said to lfctv because we watched and read it, you cant deny he said those things. As for what he is supposed to have said to the board, telling them he would never play for the club again and throwing his toys out of the pram etc, we can only go on reliable sources. These reliable sources are suggesting that he did just that and maybe more, the club have made it more than clear that they are far from happy with him. It is fairly obvious that he has wanted out for some time and has made that clear, to say that he dreamt of playing for diverpooh whilst playing for and being captain of saints shows a total lack of respect for the club and fans who pay his wages! If you don't understand that thats good for you but many, many saints fans are disgusted with him and we have every right to be.

Can we clear up this rubbish about him being a loyal servant and sticking by the club when we went down etc once and for all!
He wasn't loyal and didn't want to stick by the club and anyone who says different is just wrong! Look it up for yourselves if you don't believe it, but he has tried to force a move at least twice before, once when we were in L1. He even went so far as to refuse to play preseason friendlies, so he has form for refusing to play. He seems to have a nasty streak of throwing his toys out of the pram and basically actinglike a spoilt brat.
He may have played well for us but don't for 1 minute believe he was a loyal player!

That is exactly what I have been saying for several weeks now. There is an agenda and I am sure the World Cup and Hodgson are involved.

What makes the Lallana affair all the more disappointing is the fact that supposedly his wife and her parents are Saints through and through. What must his Dad be thinking.

It's sad that as he has had all this flack because if it doesn't work out at Liverpool he is unlikely to want to return even if the fans united as one to say come back. If any club comes in for Lovren or anyone else tell them to do one. They are under contract and are our players. They are not available.
