MORGAN Schneiderlin remains the last Saint standing at the World Cup after France marched into the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Nigeria in Brasilia.
Schneiderlin – an unused sub – watched on from the bench as Les Bleus were kept at bay by the African side for much of the match, and given a few scares of their own.
But a spell of intense pressure led to Paul Pogba’s headed goal, with Joseph Yobo’s late own goal only compounding Nigeria’s misery in a 2-0 defeat.
Nigeria’s keeper Vincent Enyeama – who plays his club football in France for Lille – had defied the French but it was his unfortunate blunder that allowed Pogba, the former Manchester United youth player who has made his name at Juventus, the chance.
