Lovren's Saints future set to be discussed

Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren

First published in Football

Dejan Lovren will be back at Saints to discuss his future sooner rather than later after Croatia were knocked out of the World Cup.

Lovren has submitted a formal written transfer request to Saints in a bid to try and force a move away from St Mary’s this summer.

Liverpool are known admirers of the centre half, who last summer became Saints’ most expensive defender when he joined from Lyon for £8.5m, while there is also said to be significant interest from abroad, as well from Tottenham.

Saints have delayed any talks over the future of Lovren or any of their other want away stars until after the World Cup.

They will require that all of them sit down with new boss Ronald Koeman before their futures are decided.

That could happen sooner than Lovren would have hoped after Croatia were dumped out of the World Cup last night.

Lovren, who played the full 90 minutes in all three of Croatia’s games in Brazil, and his teammates needed to beat Mexico in their final Group A game in order to qualify for the knockout stages but they struggled to create a single chance and Mexico were good value for their 3-1 win.

Nearly all the major chances of the match were created by the South Americans.

Hector Herrera struck the bar after 16 minutes while Oribe Peralta produced an awful finish when played through on goal.

In the second half Vedrun Corluka headed a corner off the line before Mexico had a superb penalty appeal for handball controversially waved away.

Mexico took control of the game as Croatia faded still further and scored two goals in the space of three minutes as they bagged a runners-up spot in the group to Brazil and a game against the Netherlands in the last 16.

Rafael Marquez, captaining his side in a record fourth World Cup, headed home the opener from a corner on 72 minutes before Andres Guardado added another three minutes later.

Javier Hernandez secured the result with Mexico’s third eight minutes from time.

Croatia netted a late consolation through Ivan Perisic before their misery was completed when Ante Rebic picked up a straight red card for a horrible challenge.

It left Lovren joining Saints teammates Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw in being knocked out in the group stages and looking to sort out his Saints future in the days and weeks ahead.

Why does the club need to deny every press speculation that emerges and why does the Echo seem to accept this "written transfer request" story when nothing has been received in interview with Lovren. As far as all the players are concerned they have been on International duty and probably banned from speaking to the press about speculation until they are no longer on International duty. I firmly believe that Lovren has stated nothing other than his quote prior to the World cup that he was happy at Saints and had a contract he expected to fulfill.

because if its a lie then its financially detrimental to them potentially. At the moment , many people are holding off buying season tickets and also I know of two companies ( not small ones ) that are holding off on corporate. The club would not announce if formal transfer requests had been submitted necessarily if they had , but would certainly deny it if they had not. This is a huge no brainer, I can't believe people do not get it.... also these three players have agents and they are paid to handle the player affairs.... false transfer request rumours would be stamped on because they are not in the players interests during close season......

It's just because the press is determined to sell all of our best players. The truth has no place in their sensational-sell-mor
e-papers-than the-competition-worl
d. And for those who keep asking the club to deny or confirm rumors, think about it. A professional football club will chose to only confirm when a deal is done.

Eer, unless I too need to have my intelligence insulted in a way that's highly offensive to people with disabilities I don't think he claimed they had denied it - just that there was no news or comment either way and that your comment had no proof to back it up, which is true. Your opinion or reasoned guesswork may of course be proved right, but I think all Osprey is saying is that that's all it is - guesswork.

why are you becoming so aggressive? why cant you make your point without resorting to calling people names, names that some find very offensive! if you cant make your point in a civilised manner I guess this isn't the forum for you and suggest you try twitter.

as for the `club hasn't denied the transfer request` argument, again why should they respond to media speculation, yes I know you will say financial reasons but I guess that they aren't to concerned about the arguments you put forward. after all we have just appointed a chairman whos on the world economic forum, he might know a thing or two more than you when it comes to finances. We have Kate Terry, the new head of marketing, moving to us from Apple in London, again she has quite a bit of experience and knowledge in these departments, new chief commercial officer in Martin Semmens, the owner and founder of Elvis Communications in London, who's building our commercial department. all those people have very good credentials and a very good understanding of marketing and finance.
is it your view then that all of those people must not be seeing what you are? are you then claiming to have a far better understanding of the clubs financial and marketing position than those experts?
if you do know something they don't then please do us all a favour and send your cv into the club.
personally I think they might just know what they are doing and would trust their understanding of the clubs position than yours. no offence though!

oh and you are so determined that the club/player deny the rumours and that fans provide links that disprove it, yet you can not prove the rumour yourself. the `source` (if that's what you can call it) of this rumour is the one and only ashton from the fail. yes that's it, the story he wrote about this alleged transfer request contained no proof, no quotes and nothing of any substance, yet because he wrote it all the other media outlets have jumped on it and reported it as fact. show me anywhere where this transfer request has been proven, anywhere where anyone involved has confirmed it. why should people prove its been denied when you cant prove its true in the first place!
steekeemcglue why are you becoming so aggressive? why cant you make your point without resorting to calling people names, names that some find very offensive! if you cant make your point in a civilised manner I guess this isn't the forum for you and suggest you try twitter. as for the `club hasn't denied the transfer request` argument, again why should they respond to media speculation, yes I know you will say financial reasons but I guess that they aren't to concerned about the arguments you put forward. after all we have just appointed a chairman whos on the world economic forum, he might know a thing or two more than you when it comes to finances. We have Kate Terry, the new head of marketing, moving to us from Apple in London, again she has quite a bit of experience and knowledge in these departments, new chief commercial officer in Martin Semmens, the owner and founder of Elvis Communications in London, who's building our commercial department. all those people have very good credentials and a very good understanding of marketing and finance. is it your view then that all of those people must not be seeing what you are? are you then claiming to have a far better understanding of the clubs financial and marketing position than those experts? if you do know something they don't then please do us all a favour and send your cv into the club. personally I think they might just know what they are doing and would trust their understanding of the clubs position than yours. no offence though! oh and you are so determined that the club/player deny the rumours and that fans provide links that disprove it, yet you can not prove the rumour yourself. the `source` (if that's what you can call it) of this rumour is the one and only ashton from the fail. yes that's it, the story he wrote about this alleged transfer request contained no proof, no quotes and nothing of any substance, yet because he wrote it all the other media outlets have jumped on it and reported it as fact. show me anywhere where this transfer request has been proven, anywhere where anyone involved has confirmed it. why should people prove its been denied when you cant prove its true in the first place! de Heiligen paard 101

Why do the press keep saying he has handed in a formal transfer request when the player denied it when interviewed for Croation TV after the Brazil game ?
There has been no public declaration on this from the club, the player or the players agent
the club have not denied it.... if he had not then it would take them about 5 seconds to issue the truth. They have not. It does not take Sherlock Holmes to work this one out.
Why do you keep on about what the Club has done? They have neither admitted anything nor denied anything, you know nothing, stop making it up.
are you retarded ? SFC have not denied it , if they have show me the link ... oh you can't !? ... stop talking utter cr@p...
