Saints striker Jay Rodriguez is on the road to recovery after injury

Basingstoke Gazette: Jay Rod on the road to recovery Jay Rod on the road to recovery

Jay Rodriguez has given Saints fans a huge boost by announcing that his recovery from long-term injury is well on track.

It’s been a turbulent summer for Saints so far with the departure of manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham and Rickie Lambert to Liverpool, as well as speculation surrounding the future of several first-team players, including captain Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw.

But the England striker has given the St Mary’s faithful a reason to cheer by stating that’s he on the road to recovery.

Rodriguez was top-scorer at St Mary’s last season with 17 goals and was in the frame to go to the World Cup before he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the 4-1 defeat at Manchester City in April.

Since that heartbreak the 24-year-old has been working hard, barely having a day off, at the club’s Staplewood training ground.

Talking about his rehabilitation, he said: “It’s going really well; I’m hitting my targets and going through the stages of building the muscles at the moment.

“From post-op I had to let the swelling go down and let the scar recover. Now it’s about switching the muscles on and that’s the stage I am at the moment and that’s going well so far.

“I don’t really know when I’ll be back, so it’s just about taking each stage as it comes."

Yes, good luck to Jay.

At last this is some good news about one of our Saints!

You had me picturing Jay doing his muscle rebuilding leg exercises whilst listening to Henry Mancini's "Moon River," or do you mean Roberto Mancini?

I'm finding the media rumours about all our Saints so ridiculous that I guess anything is apparently possible, but I can't quite picture our Jay liking Henry Mancini's music, as Jay is so young!

Thank goodness the World Cup is about to start, which should distract the media more than slightly from much of their usual hot air and no substance journalism about our Saints.

Absolutely but only if they hand in a written request to go. Any player who actively breaks his contract should not benefit financially with his current club paying him the residual period of that contract.

Apologies to all for that rather cynical and jaded (Jayded :o) ) comment, but this is actually some nice positive news for once in amongst all the other ridiculous hype!
So being more positive...
Good luck to you Jay, we very much look forward to seeing you in a Saints shirt playing for our new, high calibre manager along with our other world class Saints players!
Hoping also that some of those Saints players will be new signings, of a similarly high calibre!
If Ralph and Les handle it all correctly then we will all be very happy Saints Fans when the new season starts!

AT LAST - some Good News on JRod.

It was a BIG MISTAKE and a GRAND GESTURE letting Rickie go at that price.
All his mates now want to leave and join him.

TOP LEADERSHIP is required now to plug all the holes on the leaking Ship SFC. There is plenty of damage control and leakstopping to achieve - but the situation is recoverable with DECISIVE ACTION.

We get Annoucements to placate the fans before more BAD NEWS.

THE BOARD / CHAIRMAN need to be communicating regularly with the OWNER and get a Manager installed as soon as possible.

He MUST get to work as soon as possible. COYR

Strasbourg, positive comments about our Saints are welcome respite during this period of uncertainty. I liked BuddySFC's words about our Jay and about Roberto Mancini. A good dose of optimism does more good than all the doom and gloom. The mention of Mancini certainly put a smile on my face. Isn't it funny how such a positive rumour as that immediately leads to disbelief and humour, whereas the doom and gloom in the media about almost all our Saints players being sold isn't being considered by so many Saints fans as equally ridiculous?

I'm really interested only in the facts. The only certain facts this close season are that Mauricio Pochettino chose to leave and Rickie Lambert went back to his home town club, where he will probably end his playing career.

For months the media, particularly the Daily Mail, have all been huffing and puffing their usual windbag drivel that so many of our players will soon be sold. There has even been incredibly stupid, way too early speculation that Jay Rod, who is progressing after a major injury, will be bought by Spurs!

It seems that many Saints supporters prefer to believe most of the media's negativity about Saints, rather than the more sensible thought that it is most likely most of our best players will still be with Saints next season. History tells us that football clubs usually tend to sell or buy very few of the better players prior to a new season starting. Besides, Saints are not under financial pressure to sell.

I think we Saints fans have been suffering all the media's rumours for way too long. This has caused much negative reaction by some Saints fans towards the Saints board of directors. It is deeply felt that perhaps our best players will all be sold and the last five years of improvement halted. I prefer the more optimistic view that only a few changes will occur, most of which will be positive. I am looking forward to new players coming to St. Marys to improve our group of players for next season. If the doom and gloom mongers amongst our fellow Saints fans want to call me a happy clapper for this view, that is their negative prerogative. Perhaps they should be called unhappy clappers! Lol!

The most horrible thing for all we Saints fans this close season has been seeing and hearing so many media rumours about our Saints. Ralph Krueger and Les Reed have, of course, tried to reassure us, but the rumours have outweighed the reassurances. I believe our long wait for positive news will soon be ended by the club announcing the appointment of a new manager. I also believe this good news will be only the start of more positive news about our Saints. All the media's speculation will at long last be replaced by real facts.

The World Cup is about to get under way and I shall be supporting all our Saints who will be playing for their national teams. If Jay had not suffered his injury, I feel sure he would have been yet another England Saint in Brazil. I am so proud of them all!

The only good way is onward and upward, the Southampton Way!!!
