WINKLEBURY Wizards under-13s have been crowned champions of the North East Hants Youth League Premier Division.

The side enjoyed an unbeaten season in the top flight despite having the smallest squad in the division.

They finished as the leading goal scorers – with Lucas Hamill their top marksman.

They also conceded the least amount of goals after goalkeeper Fabio Denachelli kept the most clean sheets, with five from 14 games.

It was a great achievement as the season before, the side only finished fourth. They started this campaign very much as underdogs.

The Wizards’ biggest league win of the season was a magnificent 7-0 success over Curley Park Rangers Raiders, while the most exciting game was when they won away at Beacon Hill 6-5.

In the NEHY League Cup, the side reached the semi-finals – and they were only beaten in a penalty shoot-out in the Hampshire Cup.

Winklebury manager Pete Jones said: “I am so proud of what they have achieved this season as it’s beyond anything I expected at the start of the season.”

The Wizards are looking for new players for next season and anyone interested can contact manager Pete Jones on 07887 637740.
