Saints trio Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw took part in training this morning, as England stepped up their World Cup preparations.

Roy Hodgson's squad were put through their paces at their camp in Vale do Lobo, Portugal.

It is just three weeks until they kick-off in Group D against Italy in the tricky conditions of Manaus, deep in the heart of the Amazon.

England are spending time in the Algarve and Miami in preparation for the expected hot and humid conditions, although their training camp in Portugal has not exactly gone to plan so far weather-wise.

The squad arrived on Monday and, after torrential rain on Tuesday, were greeted by blustery conditions for their first and only open training session on Wednesday.

More than 100 journalists and cameramen were in attendance for the session, in which all 23 players chosen for the World Cup were in action.

Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere have been slight concerns ahead of the World Cup after they ended the season with groin and foot injuries respectively, although both took a full part in training this morning.

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is the major concern in Roy Hodgson's squad and was restricted to a non-contact session.

Having warmed up with England's other defensive players, he went off to do a light session with physio Steve Kemp, as he continues his return from a shoulder injury.

Jones was joined in non-contact training by standby John Stones.

The Everton defender was brought to Portugal in case Jones was unable to recover from injury, but the back-up player tweaked his knee in training on Tuesday.

Stones' injury is not considered to be serious and Jon Flanagan, the other standby player in Portugal, took a full part in training in which the players used the official World Cup ball.
