Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed he will have sit down talks with the Saints board about the future of the club tomorrow.

The Saints manager and several of his star players have been linked with summer moves away from St Mary’s after a terrific season that was rounded off by a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

There are reports that Tottenham could move for Pochettino within days and the manager confirmed talks over the future direction of the club will begin immediately.

He said: “We are going to sit down tomorrow and we are going to talk.

“This is basically the end of a five season project that started with Markus Liebherr buying this football club and appointing Nicola Cortese as the chairman.

“This five year project is now coming to an end and we achieved what we wanted in this five year project to take the club from League One to the Premier League.

“Now a new project has to start.”

He added: “I think as a manager the thing that makes me the most proud is the way we have played throughout the entire season, the way we have achieved the eighth place that we have achieved this season.

“Also to make the players participate in a football philosophy and that as a manager makes me very proud.”

It's now down to the board and how ambitious they are. One things for sure they wont be very popular with the fans if they don't convince pochettino to sign a new contract.

I don't agree I'm afraid.

Compromise is the key here and MoPo may have to accept that Lallana and / or Shaw may go (should they wish to, of course) but with a promise that the funds will be made available to strengthen the squad overall.

I feel that's fair and will be enough for him to stay. I'd love all the players to stay but you can't hold great talent back if their heart is set on the big 4.

Lallana has my blessing to leave, he's earned the right to do what he wants. Shaw should stay for at least another year for his own good and ours.

I have my fingers and toes crossed that mopo stays, Adkins was a legend with the work he did getting us to the premiership and will always be appreciated for the work he did getting us back to the big time. MoPo has shown that he loves the club & has taken the club to the next level in the premiership. As long as our club shows the same ambition as him then it would be hard for him to leave and with some players moved on and new improvements bought in we will be an even more potent force!

It's not the end of the world if he goes, given that the two star players Lallana and Shaw will go,there will be a war chest for a new manager!. We could do worst then poaching Howe fro Bournemouth and he always speaks English!!

Ralph Krueger's end of season interview

On his time as Chairman:

"I think when you look at the final matches, we weren't playing for a spot up or down but still worked so hard."

"The spirit and emotions as the players went around with the families really connected the fans and the team."

"You do feel a warmth here in the community."

On Pochettino's future:

"It's clear. Les Reed is our Sporting Director. He is in conversation. We now enter a new phase of conversation."

"I can tell you right now that there has been no contact of any sort from any club."

"One of the reasons we haven't quite understood the panic is that, he has another year on his contract."

"He could have a twenty-year contract. It's a volatile market. With that year guarantee, we don't feel any panic ahead of us."

"We agreed to leave it until after the last game. We have been singing the same tone as Mauricio."

On this season:

"What's happening here at Southampton is not by luck. You know that we belong where we are, in 8th place."

"It's been well deserved. That's the product of years of hard work. We don't need to be afraid of anything."

"We have to believe that our base as a club is outstanding. We have four players going to the U19 national team."

"We would've had four going to the World Cup with England."

On the future:

"We have to be able to deal with these issues, and we will."

"The only reason people are looking at players from Southampton is because we are doing an excellent job."

"It should be difficult here every summer. It means we are doing something right."

"From the beginning, we said that we need to manage responsibly here in Southampton."

"If you want a model that sustains itself over a long period of time, you need to be professional."

"You need to communicate and be honest with your fan base. We will be honest when decisions are happening."

"There's always the way you would like it to happen, and the way it does happen. They don't always mix."

"We want to be responsible."

On Lallana:

"We know nothing has occurred here. There has been so much speculation."

On the meetings in the next week or so:

"It's important to respect that communication will be happening for us, as of tomorrow."

"There are clubs that have financial means over and above what we have."

"The only thing we are going to do in our decisions is do what is best for the Saints."

On contracts:

"Les Reed is somebody with the right kind of experience and know-how."

"We understand the roles and responsibilities of everyone."

On transfers:

"Les already has his plan in place. We have players we want to approach in the next few days."

On next season:

"The new season begins tomorrow, and I think everyone needs to start getting excited about this tomorrow."

Concluding comment:

"Thanks to the fans who couldn't make it, too. We appreciate everybody out there with Saints blood."

Why look for negatives?
There ARE several teams with better incomes than us. That is a fact.

I prefer the comment " we have players we want to approach, in the next few days".
They wouldn't be contemplating doing that if they didn't think MP was staying.
It also implies that the money for transfers is already there.

And the comment about Lallana confirms that papers have been guessing.

As much as I'd love for both to stay, if I had the choice, I would keep Lallana and sell Shaw. Lallana is the engine of the team, he is the main component of the team, plus the fact that he would be much harder to replace. In addition, for economic reasons, Shaw would bring in a larger purse, even though I personally think Lallana deserves a higher price tag, and Saints could use that fee to reduce their debt plus find a suitable replacement for Shaw with some to spare.

Saint. says...

It's very simple for the board now!!

The season over now. The club already has the best manager in MP! They come with some elegant words, but now it is time to speak with action which we all now speak louder than words. So sign MP up now without delay!!

The club must know the last five year plan, and seen that planned delivered and some! It must be clear as day to the new board what the next five year plan has to be surely!!

Southampton FC have clearly come to a cross road now, and is sitting the very fringes of challenging the elite teams in the prem. We can either accept mediocrity and go no where and just tick over, or if their desires match their words we need to back MP with a transfer investment to get Southampton FC to the next level of players to challenge this Premier league.

Added to this NC put the pride into Southampton FC and told the footballing world that our best players are now for Southampton FC and hence signed them up on five year contracts. So if the new board are true to their words they need to show up all the so called big clubs that though NC has gone, that nothing has change at Southampton FC to use the new boards phrase! They need to show them all up for being small minded arrogant clubs who still think they are bigger than us to cherry pick our players! So if the new board does not want to waste the last five years hard work at showing our players are for Southampton FC, they have to stand firm with every player who wants to stay and tell the enquiring clubs to look else where, and look over your shoulder as well, because we and Ricky are coming after you!!

So over to you new board! Back your words with actions!! The players want to stay and archive with us, they all pretty much told you individually. That means keep our best players to archive this. Back MP with funds to be able to buy the next level of players to take Southampton FC into the Champions league or the title. Sign MP now and put a halt to this media circus fanned by buying clubs and send out a very loud and clear message that Southampton FC have not over excelled as some ex arrogant players have suggested. That Southampton FC has just gone as far as they can. Show the footballing world what they have just realises is the new dawn for Southampton FC, and that we are here to take your points and challenge toe to toe, we are here to play better football and we are here to stay to win and collect the richest associated with success at the top.

Bottom line is the board need to act swiftly and NOW with out delay, and I hope they already have sealed many of the above already and ready to launch the next five years plan in the other prem clubs faces with MP at the helm, our best players in a Southampton FC shirt, with the addition of quality players giving that final missing link we missed this season and which would surely of taken us up to at least 4th if we had! Not much thought for the board really, as it is as MP puts it "CLEAR"

Spot on. I don't understand why some people seem to think that Southampton are not able to keep their star players and push on to challenge the top 5. People seem to assume that just because teams such as Liverpool, Man U etc want our players, they are as good as gone. Show people that this isn't the case and bring a couple of signings and we could easily challenge. Clubs like us will never break into that top 5 if every time we're getting close we sell our star players.

I doubt it sunshine. There are very very few more attractive places for talented managers and players to be at than St Mary's.
Citeh, Liverpool and Arsenal maybe , but elsewhere the attraction is limited. Chelsea with Mr Menopause, Spurs the most hated club in London and Mank Utd with the ghosts of Moyes and SAF still spooking the overpaid ageing squad.

Not worried.

As for Cherries they over achieved this season, be a good bet for relegation battle next season, Skates so far down the leagues ..who cares.

Sky sports news have confirmed the bid. Getting worried now as it seems like we're going to blow the one chance this club has got of progressing and becoming a top 5 club. It would be devastating to prevent this from happeningby selling shaw and llallana!

Well neg heads and (ahem) `realists` (cant believe ive just called you that!) this is what you've all been waiting for, the end of the season.
so now according to your imaginations we will lose all our players because,
1. the big clubs want them and if they want you have to sell!
2. the big clubs can offer more money in wages.
3. the big clubs can offer champs league football, manure excepted.
4. the players want to go.
5. contracts mean nothing in the football world.
6. MP is going to leave and that will mean the players will follow.
7. the boards ambition wont match the players.
we will also lose MP because of all of the above.
Osvaldo will be coming back because hes rubbish and juve don't want him. he is also overvalued and instead of being a £15mill player his true value is £3mill and whoever did the deal with juve is an idiot who knows less than you.
we are financially screwed and will need to sell luke and adam but with that money we will be able to buy 5-10 decent prem players who will be able to keep us in the league and that's as good as we can hope for.
the board havent got a clue what they are doing and this will lead to everyone leaving the club.
if ive missed any of your gripes and `truths` please feel free to continually post them on nearly every thread so that if one of your imaginations come true you can constantly say `told you so".

If it is true I think it says they have made a bid. That means that he is our player and will continue to be unless the board receive a bid which is acceptable to them for a player they don't want to sell. Do you really think this club is going to blow it's chances by selling one left back for a ridiculous amount of money. Don't you realise that probably every single club in the league will sell a player or two in the close season and will bring in replacements who they hope will improve the squad. FFS stop panicking about every single story or you'll be a nervous wreck by the start of next season. Even if it is true, which it probably isn't, we can buy two or three pretty tasty players with that kind of money.

You are spot on. He would be completely out of his depth in the Prem. Does a good job for lickle Bmuff but nowhere near good enough for the Mighty Saints. Burnley were much too big a task for him as well.

makes me laugh that a so called leading Echo journalist says MP is having sit down talks is this instead of stand up talks ?? i've always assumed most conversations about contracts are sitting down. As for the continued speculation I fear most of the stories are true but hope they are false. There is a lesson in all of this that whilst Saints can't insure themselves against players and/or managers walking out on contracts if we have much longer and more watertight contracts with massive transfer fees we can protect ourselves. I think £50m for Shaw and £60-70 for Lallana represent the difficulty we'd have in replacing them

He would come to us because we have a squad of players a lot better then Bournemouth,a youth system vastly superior, a ground vastly superior, and a chance for Howe to progress to Europe ,just a few points that might attract him??
You tried before and he turned you down and that's when we had the moron Mitchell in charge.I hope you do put a approach in for him so he can turn you down AGAIN.

Stop the speculation for goodness sake.
Saint won't be looking at Eddie Howe or any other manager because ........
POOCHY STILL HAS A YEAR TO RUN ON HIS CONTRACT, WE MIGHT BEHAVING THIS DEBATE AT THE END OF NEXT SEASON - WE DON'T HAVE TO GET BENT OUT OF SHAPE NOW. So stop talking about him leaving he said quite clearly that he will honour his contract. NO MORE TO BE SAID.

WE DO NOT HAVE DEBTS WE CAN'T HANDLE - NO PLAYER NEEDS TO BE SOLD TO SERVICE ANY DEBT REAL OR IMAGINED. We have more money than we have had at any time in our long history. Do the maths before you pass comment please. NO MORE TO BE SAID.

IFIFIFIFIFIFIF - a player or two is sold it will be because the club thinks it is time to cash in on that player and replacements will have already been found or identified in the reserve/youth set up. The only people speculating about the crown jewels are in the media. And we all know they tell more lies than a politician or a priest.
IFIFIFIFIFIFIF - a player decides to go and IFIFIFIFIFIF the club decides to give him permission to talk with the, as yet, imagined club. The offer may be turned down, the player may not have his head turned and decides first team chances will be better where he is and not somewhere else.
So, playing devils advocate, the club decides to sell Luke Shaw for the rumoured 27mill and Luke decides he wants to go - the worst thing that has happened is that we now have a hole on the left we need to fill - seeeemples. Cresswell - 5mill, Barnard 7mill (yes buy 'em both) Hunt - free. Viola -we have just filled the gap with two good, quality fullbacks and a German international left winger. There is still money left to pour into a CB - win/win. NO MORE TO BE SAID.

This week the rumour mill will be in overdrive - none of it is true until you read it on the Saints website - NO MORE TO BE SAID.

We've been here in the past, gloom and doom when Channon left, Chivers left, the Wallaces left, Bale left, the Ox left, the list goes on and on, add your own if you wish. Saints survived it and before the start of the next season we were all sat in our various pubs talking about the latest signing or youth discovery. - NO MORE TO BE SAID.

ON ALL OF THIS I WILL SAY NO MORE - and I'll stop shouting too.

What is not positive about what Freddie Krueger has to say. It's all positive - go and have a drink and re-read it. He made a statement of fact that on money alone the likes of Saints and all but about 10 other clubs in Europe cannot compete on finances alone. Saints will have to field a business/revenue seeking team as good as the eleven on the pitch that's all. Katarina is not a bottomless pit and neither are most of the other owners but a lot of them are suspect and we don't have that hanging over our heads.

Malcombe says...

All Southampton Supporters hope that the Manager his Staff and all the Players stay at the Club but how many of us have thought that something devious could of been happening at Spurs?

Has Mauricio done his homework on Levy does he really want to work for him knowing his track record? Levy is disrespectful, impatient, interfering, devious and a back stabber and that's towards his Manager who HE appoints. Why does Levy need to poach and want to steal a Manager from any Premiership Club when the Manager is contracted to the Club and is proving to be an excellent Manager for the Club and this is through the season it's despicable, is it because he can't bare the thought of Southampton being above Spurs next season as if Spurs have a divine right to be be in the top 4?

Levy must of mentioned to someone how well Mauricio is Managing and it's the type of Manager he wants and while he's saying this Tim Sherwood is at the other end of the Bar and possibly whoever Levy said this to has spread what could of been a passing comment but was meant as a deliberate sowing of the seed, Levy has had good Managers but because of his impatience he sacks them.

It's an open secret that Mauricio is contracted for another year but we all know many times it's not worth the paper it's written on, Levy knows this and gives Tim Sherwood an 18 month contract to steer the ship and Sherwood has definitely improved the squad and the results to finish 6th considering he didn't buy any of the Players, Levy is probably preparing to stab Sherwood in the back rather than let him continue possibly because Mauricio has hit the headlines throughout world and with no disrespect to Sherwood hasn't made world headlines.

I am probably barking up the wrong tree and it's all hot air I truly hope but very often there's no smoke without fire. Since all the rumours started and got channelled back to the Manager and Players I thought the Players would know the future of the Manager but it's a possibility they do not know hence there comments that they too want Mauricio to stay they want to stay.

Today and many more days ahead all us Supporters are anxiously waiting to hear music to our ears rather disappointments because we will all be absolutely gutted if things do not go the way we have always wanted that is please Manager, your Staff, all the Players please please stay

Ralph K & Les R you must know what MoPo is thinking so either sign him up today, if not you should already have a short list or replacement to appoint from quickly before you loose out signing the best players.
Do not sell Adam or Luke before the World Cup as they will be worth more after it and the more Saints players representing their countries the better to enhance Saints reputation to attract their replacements.

Sky sports news have confirmed the bid. Getting worried now as it seems like we're going to blow the one chance this club has got of progressing and becoming a top 5 club. It would be devastating to prevent this from happeningby selling shaw and llallana!

Who the **** wants Eiddie..he is a good lower league boss ..but that's about it. Face it the skates and the cherries will be looking up at us for many years to come..
We will see ,your club is about to implode
You do realise you're on a forum of a club (way bigger than yours) which has from time to time helped your little club out with cheap loans etc. and whose fans (including me) have come to Dean Court to support you in your regular times of need?

Thankfully, you don't represent the average Cherries' fan (still a silly name).

Show a little respect or jog off back to your bitter and twisted small-town existence.
even with the lalla deal they got good add ons and a big sell on clause, I remember putting my hard earned into an allmouth bucket at the dell to help them out! and what thanks do we get? when we were in L1 with them we had them on here `giving it large`! small club syndrome.
Small club syndrome ????read the comments on here ,your the minnows in the prem league who are over achieving.
Premier League? Remind me, your best Premier League finish was ......... um ................. errrrrr .................. ? No, I keep looking and not finding.

For information, you can use your same log in on the Brighton Argus. Why not go and take on some of them? I know BHA are also too big for you but at least you'll probably get to play them again in the near future.

Btw, you were right about the pint of Spitfire. I now need to find a way of bringing a few more bottles back for those long Summer nights in front of the World Cup.

Ah, Spitfire, having spent five years of my life in Canterbury (mostly at uni), I am well acquainted with the fine arts of Shepheard Neame - preferred the Bishop's Finger myself, but all their ales are pretty damned good :-)
