Lallana cleans up at Saints' award dinner

Basingstoke Gazette: Adam Lallana arrives for the awards with Jack Cork. Adam Lallana arrives for the awards with Jack Cork.

Adam Lallana’s amazing season got even better last night as he scooped the four major honours at the Saints awards dinner.

The entire first team squad, manager Mauricio Pochettino, club owner Katharina Liebherr and the senior staff were all suited and booted for the glittering black tie affair at St Mary’s to celebrate a fantastic season.

After guests, some of whom had paid around £200 a ticket to attend, arrived on the red carpet, they were treated to a drinks reception followed by a four course meal.

The awards kicked off later in the evening, hosted by Sky Sports presenter and Saints fan Ed Chamberlain.

There were contributions from the likes of chairman Ralph Krueger and club president Terry Paine.

Lallana, who is expected to be named in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup after a fabulous campaign, was the major winner.

He picked up the hat-trick of Player of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season and Away Fans Player of the Season.

He also added the Goal of the Season trophy to his haul, decided by a vote on the night, for his wonderful solo strike against Hull.

All the awards also came with the prize of an Eterna watch, meaning he walked away with four of the timepieces to start a burgeoning collection.

There was also a President’s award, selected and presented by Paine, that went to Jack Cork.

Jake Hesketh scooped the Scholar of the Year trophy just hours after signing his first professional contract with the club.

There was a jubilant mood at St Mary’s as the players, staff and guests reflected on a season to remember.

Saints will finish the campaign in eighth place, which matches their best ever Premier League era finish.

They require just one point from their final game at home to Manchester United to make it their highest top flight points total for 29 years.

Their win against Swansea also equalled their top flight best of seven victories on the road in a single campaign.

Lallana has been outstanding this season and fully deserved the awards, an England cert but I just have a horrible feeling he won't be Saints player next season, I really hope I'm wrong.

You are first of many that will be saying the same thing, difficult to read into his demeanour tonight, he was obviously emotional and a bit overwhelmed on the occasion, shouldn't read between the lines yet. He has done virtually everything he can do with us, so I wouldn't blame him if tried his luck elsewhere, personally I am not convinced that would work out, but my bias clouds my judgement so I would welcome other opinions. It may depend on what Poch and other players do that will sway him one way or the other. Or perhaps we can make him an offer that would be difficult for him to refuse!

How disappointing the YouTube viewing has been it is horrible to watch from the start with it going in fits and starts, I tried restarting and when I returned to the site it was worse.

All have deserved awards Adam has been excellent and it must of been difficult to choose, anyway I'm going back to YouTube to see if it's improved because we are all dying to hear Mauricio speak in English and he might hint that say he'll be at the Club next season as we all hope

Congratulations to AL. I voted for him and his awards are well deserved. Sadly his demeanour and comments when collecting his Player of the Season award didn't exactly fill me with confidence that he is expecting to be a Saint next season. Let's hope we're both wrong!!

Nice. He always struck me as the loyal type. He could have moved on when we were lower down the league, but he didn't. I'm sure we're all just hoping he has the will to resist the allure of big money now he's in position to ask for it.

Basically it is down to whether he really believes and can be persuaded that he'll get European football (have to be Champions league , I suppose) next season, and if so, then maybe he will do a Suarez and make sure we do get there. In fact, it's a bit like the Suarez saga.
However, the likes of Gerard and Rooney will probably be trying to influence him in Brazil.

I agree Saint Jinx it's human nature they would talk amongst themselves but as we all know nothing is guaranteed in Football whether it's Cups or Champions League Football, all Clubs have to work for rewards the difference is tops Clubs who have been there especially Champions League will never want to drop there standards it's as if they must be there because it obviously the Teams are playing against the best Players in the world and it generates millions of pounds with the possibility of winning but money doesn't always bring happiness, the ambitions of Southampton FC haven't reached halfway yet and maybe the Players that are being stalked still want to be part of the plan plus loyalty will play a big part although sentiment doesn't have to be the key to holding on to Players, what will play a very big part is Mauricio will stay. .

I did think and I am sure all Supporters did when Saints were in 3rd/4th in the League that ambitions were going to the plan of Cortese and Mauricio in fact sooner than expected but everyone knows that progress has happened finishing 8th which must be envied by all the Clubs below Saints.

We all know what we want after the last game so let's hope we get it and we all have a smile until the first game of 2014/2015

He got very emotional when asked what saints ( the club) meant to him and was talking about progressing to the next step with the club. I know people were hanging on his every word and wont accept anything but him saying 'im staying at Southampton and don't want to leave' as proof that he hasn't been or isn't going to be sold, but he cant say that. He wants the club to show the same ambitions the players have and to keep MP. Do that and he wont be going anywhere but Brazil! He was also very humble when asked about MP comparing him to xavi, fadregas and iniesta.

Well done lalla you've always been a good player but this season you've turned into a great player.

Adam saying he wants to be part of the progress is reassuring so does he know what the next move is regarding Mauricio, could it mean he knows Mauricio isn't going anywhere?
Last night I was set for the night to watch the Awards on YouTube but it was very disappointing and very frustrating, I was pulling my hair out and the air was blue, it got worse and by 11pm it was behind by 15 minutes so I'd had enough.

I want to know if Mauricio made a speech, I do hope that if he didn't he was concerned he would be asked the obvious by Ed and wouldn't want it set in stone by YouTube, I wanted to see and hear from Ralph and Katharina so I assume I'll have to wait until it will be published on here, does anyone know?

That's a good point, but he loves Liverpool so much that he may give that one a miss (the loyalty factor) when he is "having a cuppa" with Adam.

as far as I`m aware MP didn't make a speech, but I would read that much into it because its not the type of event for in depth interviews.
RK did make a speech but I missed it so cant say what he said, KL was there but again don't think she made a speech.
I think what lalla and the rest of the players have been saying in recent interviews is that they want MP to stay and want the club to ensure he does. lalla couldn't be more full of praise for MP last night. Jack Cork was asked about not playing at the start of the season and said that if the club is to progress there has to be good competition for places, so has MP had a word with him because we were led to believe that corky wasn't happy at the start of the season and wanted out.

The reference to "haters" and "Neggies" is done with tongues very firmly in cheeks, it is just a defense mechanisim to fight off the posters that love to post rumours about players leaving, when they have no real evidence and no facts to back the tales up. What else would you call them? WUMs, Trolls, or just scaremongers? A decent Saints fan would only post an opinion on News based on data from Official Sources, not hysterical rumours from red top newspapers or Twitter and rumour sites. Reading between the lines is fair enough, and worthy of comment, as long as it is based on opinions, knowing that there may be nothing in it at all.

When I said Poch was off too, I was being ironic, the fact he didn't make a speech is more likely because he is staying and will have plenty of time to say his piece when he is ready to do so. We also know he is uncomfotable when speaking in public and would probably ask someone else to put in words what he wants to say.

I hope all the guys and MoPo stick together for one more year, if we see more progress at the start of the season then I don't think anyone will leave.
Adz said last night that he loves all the players and fans at Southampton so I am hoping he stays to captain our ship higher in the Premiership.
Ed tried to get little bits of information from him... but he has his answers prepared.

I would hate to see any of our top Saints play against us.
norgie, before the awards last night they were reading tweets from saints fans, did you send in a tweet because they read one from a fan in Norway who said other teams took a hell of a beating this season. it had to be you didn't it?

Irony is best left with The Hammers, Scunthorpe, Guinness and water cress.
Meanwhile, humour can get taken two ways as well.

Have to say though, having Adam clean up at the dinner is probably not the best way to hold onto him. You think the club would hire waiters or something.
Take note Osprey, humorous irony.
For all his mercurial talents, AL will only be getting my vote in Tie Wearer of the Year if he stays.
In which case, many will run naked -bar the new scarves-through the Bargate.

One of the main reasons why Lallana has been so good, this season, is down to the luck he has had in avoiding injury.

He showed last season, that unless he was at the peak of fitness, he was nowhere near as effective as he has been this season.
I hope he remembers this, should he be contemplating joining a "big" club, where there will be more competition for places and a possibility of him having to spend time on the bench.

You know me, I use every weapon in my armoury, metaphors, similes, hyperbole, litotes and even synecdoche if it gets the message across. Sarcasm as a last resort.
