Cardiff defender Steven Caulker says the club’s upcoming game against Saints is a “must-win” match if they are to avoid relegation.

The Welsh side visit St Mary’s on Saturday, with three points seemingly vital if they are to improve their dire-looking situation.

Cardiff are currently 19th in the table, six points adrift of safety and with just five games left to rescue themselves.

Caulker admits, therefore, that there is no room for error this weekend.

“We do need to win at Southampton,” he said.

“Everyone wrote us off in the opening home game of the season against Manchester City, and we proved them otherwise and went and won the game.

“We’ve got belief we can stay up. We need to put in a performance and get a result at Southampton now.

“They have been very impressive in the Premier League and they are going to be a very hard team to beat, but we are going to have to beat them if we want to stay up.”
