Saints game is "must win" for Cardiff

Basingstoke Gazette: Steven Caulker Steven Caulker

Cardiff defender Steven Caulker says the club’s upcoming game against Saints is a “must-win” match if they are to avoid relegation.

The Welsh side visit St Mary’s on Saturday, with three points seemingly vital if they are to improve their dire-looking situation.

Cardiff are currently 19th in the table, six points adrift of safety and with just five games left to rescue themselves.

Caulker admits, therefore, that there is no room for error this weekend.

“We do need to win at Southampton,” he said.

“Everyone wrote us off in the opening home game of the season against Manchester City, and we proved them otherwise and went and won the game.

“We’ve got belief we can stay up. We need to put in a performance and get a result at Southampton now.

“They have been very impressive in the Premier League and they are going to be a very hard team to beat, but we are going to have to beat them if we want to stay up.”

It's not often I feel sorry for Cardiff fans, but now is one of them. After years of being the nearly team, they finally make it to the summit of football and now they're being made to look like muppets.

Unfortunately we need to win this one to maintain our League Position, can't afford to show any sympathy and we have to be fair on the other relegation candidates, a couple of their players may be available if they get relegated so should be worth a look at to see if they are worthy!

It will be interesting to see how we cope, without JRod, because he provides good balance to the team, and if we get that balance wrong, the result could be closer than recent performances would suggest.
Gaston would be the most obvious choice, although he disappears if he stays too wide.
Gallagher up front would mean Rickie playing behind him, which I think reduces his impact on the team, as he will be easier to mark.
Potential for another academy player to get a start?
Targett at left back with Luke ahead of him, would be interesting.

Marshall has looked a decent keeper, and could provide good competition for Artur.
Noone seems decent and many talk about Caulker being a decent CB.

WE MUST TOTALLY DOMINATE AND WIN - as we did as their place ... including on the Terraces on Boxing Day.

As Norwegian Saint has rightly posted - WIN IT FOR JROD.

Even without Jrod we have STRIKE OPTIONS to beat Cardiff and leave them on the brink of relegation.

WE ARE RED ARMY - AND WE RULE THE SOUTH.

RED ARMY 2014. FIGHT AND WIN. COYR.

When Saints beat them and all reveal messages to J-Rod, Cardiff will probably need at least 7 points from 4 games, can't see that happening even with Norwich not getting another point.
