Seven-match ban for Pardew

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been handed a seven-match suspension for his headbutt on Hull's David Meyler - but will be at St Mary’s later this month.

The former Saints boss is the first Premier League manager to receive a stadium ban, which has been imposed for three matches, starting with Newcastle's game at Fulham this weekend and including home games against Crystal Palace and Everton.

But he will be returning to St Mary's on March 29, the fourth match of his suspension and the first of the four games for which he has received a touchline ban.

He will also be in the stands for Newcastle’s games against Manchester United, Stoke and Swansea City.

A statement on the FA website read: "Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will serve a seven-match suspension with immediate effect, subject to any appeal, after he admitted an FA misconduct charge.

"An Independent Regulatory Commission today [Tuesday 11 March 2014] ruled the first three-matches imposed are a stadium ban with the remaining four a touchline ban.

"Pardew was also fined £60,000 and warned as to his future conduct.

He was involved in an incident with a Hull City player in the 72nd minute of the fixture on 1 March 2014."

Pardew’s ban will be over for Newcastle’s last three games of the season, starting against Arsenal on April 28.

In a statement on the club's official website Pardew said: "As I have made clear, I deeply regret the incident and again wholeheartedly apologise to all parties for my conduct, which I understand was not acceptable.

"I will accept the punishment handed down by the FA today. My focus now turns to preparing the team for this weekend's game against Fulham and finishing the season as strongly as possible."

It's little wonder that their fans punch police horses when the manager sets this sort of example.

Thank god he was shipped out of St Mary's - this, Irish Rooney's 300k per week, an England squad with an inept manager and a likely team with neither hope nor prayer. Thank god for Saints

I thought he'd get a longer ban than that. Still, I was also under the misapprehension that that nutting people was illegal.

He received his punishment and as our former manager would say, draw a line under it and move on.

Come on Burton!
i thought the stadium ban would last until the end of the season.

at least it gives us the perfect opportunity to give him a lovely welcome back to sms (and football).
does anyone have any ideas for chants?

Pardew has been an aggressive so and so on the sidelines of late and he has come out with some crafty, snide comments according to the press anyway. Remember what he was quoted as saying to Poch after the fracas at their place when Perez was sent off. Something along the lines of, "You keep your staff under control, I'll look after mine" after their coach had lost the plot over Spider's tackle. Self-serving statement if ever i heard one. I bet if he said it at all it was done snidily. Made it sound as if it was Saints staff responsible. I say it is about time he got his comeuppance. Never liked him as you can probably guess :)

He's got off lightly IMO. His past record - including racking up the tension when Saints went to St James' Park earlier this season - merited a complete stadium ban up until the end of the season. He's a bit of a thug and sets a disgraceful example. As usual, the FA gets it wrong.
