BASINGSTOKE Royals are level on points with leaders New Inn at the top of the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division after a 4-0 win over Sherborne St John.

Nick Willcock was the star of the show, bagging a hat-trick, and he opened his account after just 15 minutes, tapping in after Tom Smith helped Craig Barker’s throw into the danger area.

That was the only goal of the first half, but Willcock doubled his tally on 50 minutes, assisted by Smith, and completed his hat-trick soon after. Ama Bhuller got the fourth goal five minutes from time, converting Barker’s pass.

The result means that Royals and New Inn have the same number of points. However, New Inn have three games in hand and remain favourites to claim the title.

The only other Premier Division game scheduled for Saturday did not take place as Old Basing Rangers could not raise a team to face Welly Old Boys.
