READING’S Championship play-off hopes, took a dent as they lost 2-0 to Ipswich at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.
It was the home side’s first win of 2014 and left Reading sixth in the table, while Ipswich moved up to seventh.
Daryl Murphy opened the scoring for Ipswich with a nice strike after on 62 minutes.
The home side made sure of the three points in the final minute thanks to sub Paul Anderson.
Earlier in the game, Stephen Hunt nearly scored for the Ipswich, but his volley was cleared off the line by Kaspars Gorkss.
The Royals felt they were denied a penalty by referee Andy Madley, when their captain, Jobi McAnuff, was sent sprawling in the penalty area by Luke Chambers.
Reading’s best chance came from Daniel Williams, but his 25-yard dipping shot was saved by Dean Gerken.
Reading manager Nigel Adkins said: “We did really well in the first half. We were on the front-foot and competitive, but Ipswich were better in the second half.”
The Royals are back in Championship action with a visit from Blackpool on Tuesday night (8pm).
