Basingstoke and District Sunday League round-up
TEAMS from the Basingstoke and District Sunday League found the going tough in the first round of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup, writes Tony Spencer.
Republic of Chineham were the only Basingstoke side to get through, winning 2-1 away at Romsey side Whitenap. North Warnborough and Kaiser Wessex did not fare so well, with Warnborough losing 5-3 at home to Royal Arms and Kaiser going down 5-0 at White Hart Arms.
Local clubs fared better in the Hampshire Junior A Cup, with six of the nine Basingstoke sides earning a place in the next round.
Eastrop Eagles beat visiting Plough and Horses, of the Aldershot League, 6-1, while Lamb Inn won 5-0 away at Waterlooville side Fox and Hounds.
RAF Odiham Blades did even better, beating Sirloin of Beef 8-0, while South View won 2-1 away at Solent Town and Chineham beat Aldershot League side Heatherlands 3-2.
Sambuca survived a penalty shoot-out to make it through, beating Portsmouth side AFC Eastney 5-4 on spot-kicks after a 1-1 draw on the south coast.
AFC Hook lost 5-2 at home to visitors Owslebury of the Winchester League, Chineham Athletic were beaten 4-2 by Bournemouth Electric Reserves and UWS went down 2-1 to Gosport, Fareham and Solent League side CJ Glass.
Basingstoke Saints bounced back from a heavy defeat at the hands of Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division One leaders Tron with a 3-2 league win over Dayers Fine Foods.
AFC Golden Lion lost their fourth Division Three game on the trot with a 5-0 defeat inflicted by Railway Club, while North Warnborough II chalked up their first win of the campaign with a 9-3 away win at winless Whitchurch Kings.
