Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One round-up
TADLEY Calleva A brought their Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One fixture against Welly Old Boys Reserves forward to Friday evening to allow their players to attend the club’s FA Cup tie at Chalfont.
It did them no harm with a 2-1 win as Steve Burgess gave them the lead before Sam Nwachukwu scored with Welly’s first attack after the break.
Mark Greenwood headed into his own goal five minutes from time to give Tadley the victory.
Relegated Bramley United are favourites for a quick return and they started with a 6-4 win over visiting Herriard Sports.
Bramley led through 16-year-old striker Josh Arthur, one of three youngsters new manager Andy Lear has brought in from Loddon Sports.
Arthur went on to score four, with Stuart Woods and Stuart Leddy getting the other two.
Stuart Minton netted twice for Herriard and there were singles from Martin Miles and John Hamill.
A last-minute goal from Jamie Perryman, the league’s top scorer last season, saw Skewers beat Hook Reserves 5-4.
Jack McKee opened the scoring for Hook, but goals from Sam Cato and Simon Jane put Skewers ahead.
Andy Haig netted again to level it, but Cato replied with a direct free-kick and Mark Doran made it 4-2.
Hook equalised through McKee and Lawrence Wright, before Perryman scored a late winner.
The clash between Pure Spartan and Overton United A was postponed due to loose turf in the penalty areas at the Brighton Hill pitches.
