Poch: My star men are staying put
Mauricio Pochettino has not ruled out adding to his squad before the end of the transfer window – but has issued a hands off warning to any clubs interested in his top stars.
Pochettino insists he is happy to go forward with what he’s got but is keeping an eye on the market ahead of the window closing on Monday night.
Saints are understood to be prepared to bring in at least one further signing if the right player becomes available, with a pacy winger their top priority.
Chelsea’s Victor Moses is the latest to be linked with a loan move to St Mary’s.
However, Pochettino is adamant that the likes of Luke Shaw won’t be leaving the club, even if Manchester United give up on their pursuit of Leighton Baines and come calling for the teenager.
He said: “At the moment we are expecting to see what the transfer window offers us or doesn’t offer us so we are keeping an eye on what’s happening.
“Overall we are happy with what we’ve signed.
“We are keeping our eye on the market but we are happy with what we’ve signed and it wouldn’t be a problem if we didn’t sign anyone else.
“Of course, across the board with all the teams everybody is expecting to maybe add a player to enhance their squad.”
He added: “We haven’t received any contact from Manchester United but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were interested in our very good players.
“They have shown they are very good players and that they will be able to compete in any big team.
“There hasn’t been contact and if there was it would be rejected because I think all these players are very happy playing here and we are very happy having them here playing for us.”
Pochettino rejected outright speculation that Saints were interested in Porto defender Abdoulaye Ba, which always seemed unlikely as their priority is a winger.
When asked about Moses he confirmed no approach had been made to Chelsea and explained: “We are keeping an eye on what might happen towards the end of the transfer activity.
“We are not specifically targeting any one player, we are keeping an eye on what could happen towards the end of the transfer market.
“We are very happy with what we’ve got already and there’s no need to add anything to it for now.”
