Tadley Calleva top table after opening day win
TADLEY Calleva turned on the style in a 5-2 win at Hayling United to head Wessex League Division One after the opening weekend of the season.
The home side, demoted to division one due to the standard of their ground, proved to be no match for the visitors, who strolled to a 4-0 lead at half-time.
This included a hat-trick in the first 25 minutes from Brett Denham. His first came after an excellent team move involving Danny Vickers, new club captain Scott Kinge, Matt Aslett and Grant Powell.
His second arrived 10 minutes later as James Milford and Ash Roberts combined for him to score and then Denham completed his hat-trick.
It then became 4-0 when Powell’s pace again proved too much for the home side and he drilled the ball into the bottom of the net.
After the break, the home side went with four in attack and pulled a goal back, but Tadley replied with their fifth as Mario Nurse found Milford to score.
Hayling netted a late consolation to complete the scoring, but were well beaten.
A delighted Tadley boss Danny Dolan said: “This was an outstanding team effort and we played some nice football as well as getting the end result.”
The manager now has a selection headache as Andy Charsley, Callum Bush and Henry Johnson all return to the squad for the visit of Hythe and Dibden.
Dolan added: “I am looking to for a second win this weekend, which would be the ideal lead up to our FA Cup game with Ascot, but Hythe are a new side with new players so we must not underestimate them.”
