Town almost upset league leaders
7:20pm Saturday 9th March 2013 in Football
BASINGSTOKE Town were cruelly denied an excellent win over Blue Square Bet South leaders Welling United.
Manny Williams gave visiting Basingstoke the lead just before half-time and it looked like Jason Bristow's men were about to complete the double over the league's top two, having beaten second-placed Salisbury City on Tuesday.
However, Welling grabbed an injury-time leveller through Jake Gallagher to maintain their unbeaten home record and stay top of the table.
Basingstoke are up to 14th - just three points outside the top 10 and six above the relegation zone.
In the Premier League, Reading lost their crucial relegation six-pointer at home to Aston Villa 2-1, while Southampton drew 0-0 away at Norwich City.
