9:42pm

FULL-TIME - Sutton United 3 Basingstoke Town 2

Harsh on Town, who did so well to come back, but they made it hard for themselves by starting so poorly.

Another setback and the play-offs look even further off now. There's just no consistency.

See Thursday's Gazette for a full report and all of the reaction to today's game.

9:42pm

Stuart Lake fires in a shot from the edge of the area but Tom Lovelock is down to save and the referee blows for time.

9:40pm

BASINGSTOKE HIT THE POST

So close to yet more late drama as a mix-up lets Manny Williams in. He beats the goalkeeper but his shot comes back off the bottom of the upright.

9:38pm

SUBSTITUTION - Sutton United - James Folkes on for Marvin Williams

9:36pm

GOAL - Sutton United 3 Basingstoke Town 2 - Tom Jordan (90 min)

Sadly, the resulting corner finds the head of TOM JORDAN, who glances the ball in. Surely the winner. Town have three minutes of added time to find another equaliser.

9:36pm

Tremendous block by Rob Rice to stop a Sutton player smashing the ball in from 10 yards.

9:32pm

Town are hanging on now. Four minutes plus added time to go.

9:31pm

Decent play by Sutton down the left and a good headed clearance by Wes Daly.

9:28pm

Town may have come back from two down here but it's gone the other way at Arsenal, who now trail 3-1. Shame.

9:22pm

GOAL - Sutton United 2 Basingstoke Town 2 - Delano Sam-Yorke (76 min)

That's an outstanding team goal to level the game.

Tim Sills outmuscles a defender down the right and pulls the ball back for Manny Williams. He finds Simon Dunn and one-touch passes from he and Wes Daly result in DELANO SAM-YORKE getting the ball in space on the left side of the area. The striker has time to take a touch before finishing well.

9:21pm

That's a decent opening. Town were three on three there and Manny Williams found Tim Sills, in behind and not offside. Sadly the striker's finish was poor, mishit over the bar.

9:17pm

YELLOW CARD - Craig Dundas - Sutton United

Dundas is booked for a lunge on Simon Dunn that the Town man did well to evade on the way to setting up Tim Sills for that last shot.

9:16pm

A decent Town move leads to Tim Sills shooting from the edge of the area but he's off-balance and fires wide of the near post.

9:14pm

Not a lot going on at the moment. Sutton seem comfortable, with much of the play in the middle third and a lot of long balls.

9:13pm

YELLOW CARD - Tom Jordan - Sutton United

Jordan is booked for kicking the ball away after Town are awarded a free-kick.

9:11pm

DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION - Sutton United - Anthony Riviere and Leroy Griffiths on for Dean Sinclair and Richard Paquette

9:04pm

Great work by Manny Williams to close down the goalkeeper and win the ball - but nothing comes of it.

9:02pm

That's a great challenge by Rob Rice to deny Richard Paquette. Mis-time that and it would have been a penalty and a red card. The loose ball falls for Harry Beautyman, who scuffs wide.

9:00pm

Arsenal have pulled a goal back. Lukas Podolski against his old club.

8:59pm

Town almost break but Sutton goalkeeper Tom Lovelock just beats Simon Dunn to Delano Sam-Yorke's pass.

8:57pm

YELLOW CARD - Marvin Williams - Sutton United

Not sure why. He must have said something to the referee.

8:55pm

A few lucky richochets on the edge of the area and Harry Beautyman has the chance to shoot - but his curler is straight at Ashley Bayes.

8:53pm

Sutton have the first chance of the second period, Marvin Williams forcing Ashley Bayes into a low save from the edge of the area.

8:53pm

KICK-OFF

Town get the second-half started. Can they complete the comeback?

8:51pm

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Tim Sills on for Shaun McAuley

Town bring the big man on at half-time. The McAuley/Messi comparisons can end.

8:47pm

The teams are out for the second-half.

8:46pm

Other scores from the division: Hayes and Yeading 1 Bromley 0, Truro 1 Dorchester 1, Eastbourne 0 Bath 2, Welling 1 Farnborough 0, Tonbridge 1 Hornchurch 0, Chelmsford 1 Havant 1.

8:34pm

HALF-TIME - Sutton United 2 Basingstoke Town 1

Despite only starting to play after going two down, Town are well in this game. They have been the better side since Jason Bristow changed things.

8:34pm

Sutton are ending on a flourish and go close to adding a third. Michael Boateng is in down the right and his dangerous low ball elludes everyone but Marvin Williams, whose angled drive flashes past the far post.

8:31pm

There will be two minutes of added time at the end of the half.

8:28pm

Town are well on top and go close to levelling when Matt Warner's free-kick takes a nick off the head of a Sutton defender. It's only just wide, with Manny Williams just unable to get a touch as it flashes past the post.

8:25pm

YELLOW CARD - Manny Williams - Basingstoke Town

A harsh yellow for Williams at the end of a promising attack. Delano Sam-Yorke did well down the right and Williams catches a defender attempting to get something on his low ball in.

8:22pm

GOAL - Sutton United 2 Basingstoke Town 1 - Manny Williams (35 min)

Fair play to Jason Bristow. That change has really had an effect and a spell of pressure ends with MANNY WILLIAMS finding the corner of the net with a deadly accurate shot from the edge of the area.

8:21pm

Big news - Town have won a corner! To be fair, the tactical change seems to have had an effect. They're certainly being pulled apart with less regularity.

There's half a chance from the corner too, Delano Sam-Yorke volleying awkwardly wide.

8:19pm

Town seem to have switched from 4-4-2 to match Sutton's 4-2-3-1, with Manny Williams and Delano Sam-Yorke drifting out wide and Shaun McAuley playing in the Lionel Messi 'false nine' role.

I suspect that may be the first and last time McAuley and Messi have been mentioned in the same sentence.

8:16pm

Good play by Manny Williams, but he really should have put Shaun McAuley in there. Instead the pass is badly overhit, while Delano Sam-Yorke may have been a better option.

8:12pm

Town win a promising free-kick - but Wes Daly's ball in finds nobody and goes out for a goal-kick.

8:11pm

It almost got worse here, Tom Jordan getting up to meet a corner and heading narrowly over.

8:11pm

Up the road at Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also 2-0 to the good. Bad night if you're an Arsenal and Basingstoke fan.

8:08pm

Sutton work a two-on-one down the left and the cross finds Harry Beautyman, whose effort is blocked over the bar.

There's another chance from the resulting corner, a Sutton man escaping his marker to head well over - and Ashley Bayes is livid with his defenders.

8:05pm

Another decent cross from Michael Boateng and Ashley Bayes does well to claim.

8:02pm

GOAL - Sutton United 2 Basingstoke Town 0 - Marvin Williams (16 min)

That had been coming - and it's more appalling defending from Town.

First they fail to defend a throw properly, allowing Sutton to move inside with ease. The ball eventually makes it to the other side of the pitch, where right-back Michael Boateng is given time and space to pick out MARVIN WILLIAMS, who gets across Jay Gasson to score at the near post.

8:00pm

It's been one-way traffic so far and another Sutton free-kick causes problems, getting a couple of flicks before going wide. Town simply aren't at the races at the moment.

7:56pm

The good news, certainly from my perspective as a Chelsea fan, is that Arsenal are also losing.

7:55pm

Rob Rice is back on - but wearing an un-numbered shirt, presumably due to blood on the original.

7:55pm

Delano Sam-Yorke latches onto a poor defensive header but there's not much support and he's crowded out.

7:52pm

There's a Town player down with a head injury. Unsuprisingly, it's Rob Rice, but he looks like he'll be okay to continue.

7:48pm

GOAL - Sutton United 1 Basingstoke Town 0 - Richard Paquette (2 min)

Oh dear. Just 70 seconds on the watch and Town are behind, thanks to some more terrible defending.

Nathan Smart commits a foul down the Sutton left and the ball is swung into the area. It's missed by everyone, including a couple of Town defenders who should clear, and falls to Dean Sinclair at the back post.

He has loads of time to take a touch before crossing the ball to give RICHARD PAQUETTE a simple headed chance from close range.

7:46pm

KICK-OFF

Sutton get the game started. There's quite a big crowd in this good, old fashioned ground.

7:44pm

The sides are out and going through the pre-match rituals.

7:43pm

About 15 miles from where I am sitting, Arsenal are about to take on Bayern Munich - but who needs the Champions League when you've got the Blue Square Bet South?!

7:39pm

Couple of interesting points.

Today marks a year since Jason Bristow took over as manager of Basingstoke Town.

The last match before Frank Gray left the club and Bristow took over? Sutton away on February 18 last year. The hosts won 1-0 thanks to a fantastic strike from Harry Beautyman, who plays tonight.

The result left Town 13 points outside the play-offs, a deficit that they famously overturned to extend their season. Before tonight's games, the gap between Town and the top five stands at nine points. Can they do it again?

Personally, I think it's an even bigger ask. There are less games to go and more sides between Town and the play-off places, also fancying their chances of sneaking in. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

7:29pm

The teams are out warming up on a chilly evening in south London. The pitch looks in really good nick, save for a couple of small-ish heavily sanded areas.

They've got a few players with plenty of experience at this level, with Richard Pacquette and Craig Dundas in the starting 11 and Leroy Griffiths and Anthony Riviere on the bench.
