WELLY Old Boys booked their place in the fourth round of the Hampshire Junior A Cup, but not before visiting Division One outfit Tadley Calleva A gave them a fright.

Hosts Welly started well as Matt Button hit the bar after just three minutes from a Ben Nicholls cross and then James McIntosh scored with a chip.

After several good saves by Tadley’s Dave Hicks, two minutes into the second half Tadley drew level. A poor clearance by Ryan Evans led to Rob Lang sending Tyrone Aldridge through and he made no mistake.

On 55 minutes, Welly restored their lead when Evans made amends for his earlier lapse and headed home Nicholls’ corner.

Tadley had a great chance to level just after the hour, when Steve Aldridge was fouled in the box, but Jack Nebitt fired the spot-kick over the bar.

After that it was Welly who had the better of play as both Dale Bristow and McIntosh went close.
