FULL-TIME - Basingstoke Town 1 Chelmsford City 2

Town's poor run goes on - and they now have a three week break to think about this latest defeat. They were probably worth a point today though.

See The Monday Gazette for a full report and all of the reaction.

Good play by Douglas Bergqvist creates a chance for Tim Sills but his effort from the edge of the area is too close to Stuart Searle.

That's a dreadful miss from Chelmsford's Donovan Simmonds, who sidefoots over from 12 yards after good play down the right by Jamie Slabber.

A decent Town move ends with a miss-hit effort from Wes Daly bobbling well wide.

Town will have four additional minutes to find an equaliser.

Stefan Brown was almost in there, Stuart Searle just getting to a header back before the Town man.

An early ball in from Matt Warner is just about cut out by Mark Haines before it reaches Tim Sills.

SUBSTITUTION - Basingstoke Town - Shaun McAuley on for Nathan Smart

Robert Rice crosses the ball from the right. It's a difficult chance for Tim Sills, who is 15 yards out, and his looping header only finds the roof of the net.

GOAL - Basingstoke Town 1 Chelmsford City 2 - Nathan Smart (OG) 81min

Donovan Simmonds looks like Chelmsford's most dangerous player and he causes havoc down the Town left before pulling the ball back for Craig Calver. His shot is going wide until it hits Smart on the shins and dribbles beyond Ashley Bayes.

Tim Sills looks out on his feet after putting in a hell of a shift but he gets up to meet Stefan Brown's cross, heading wide.

Jamie Slabber gets his head to a free-kick from deep but the effort flashes well wide.

Town are having a decent spell and Nathan Smart finds Tim Sills with a cross - but the striker heads wide and is penalised for a foul anyway.

A mistake by Matt Warner almost gives Craig Calver a chance - but Jay Gasson does well to block.

A good period of possession play from the hosts results in a corner when Nathan Smart's low shot is deflected wide.

A couple of half-chances involving Town's Tim Sills. First he blocks Stuart Searle's clearance but the ball goes wide, while he then runs onto Robert Rice's clever pass before firing at goal from a narrow angle, forcing the 'keeper to save.

RED CARD - Basingstoke Town - Delano Sam-Yorke

RED CARD - Chelmsford City - Kenny Clark

Both players go to ground following a challenge and a tussle insues. Clark seemed to be preventing Sam-Yorke from getting away by grabbing his legs, causing the Town man to lash out in an attempt to free himself, making contact with the defender.

After a spot of handbags, referee Ryan Atkin consults with his assistant before showing Sam-Yorke a straight red and Clark a second yellow.

We may not have heard the end of this either as Sam-Yorke refuses to go quietly, shouting towards the assistant and having to be cajoled off the field by his team-mates.

Town fail to make anything of the free-kick and Stuart Searle's long kick finds Donovan Simmonds in behind. He looks set to at least test Ashley Bayes but Robert Rice makes a great challenge to block the shot.

YELLOW CARD - Chelmsford City - Kenny Clark

Clark halts an attack down the right with his hand and is duly booked.

SUBSTITUTION - Chelmsford City - Craig Calver on for Robert Edmans

GOAL - Basingstoke Town 1 Chelmsford City 1 - Donovan Simmonds 48min

Having gone so close to doubling the lead, Town now find themselves level. A simple ball over the top finds Simmonds in behind and he holds off Matt Warner before smashing the ball past Ashley Bayes and in off the underside of the crossbar.

Chelmsford start the second half by winning their first corner of the match but Town break quickly and almost double the lead, Delano Sam-Yorke being denied by Mark Haines' last-ditch challenge.

KICK-OFF - Town get the second half under way. No changes for either side at the break.

HALF-TIME - Basingstoke Town 1 Chelmsford City 0

Town probably just shaded a hard-fought half lacking in quality - but that was the perfect time to score.

GOAL - Basingstoke Town 1 Chelmsford City 0 - Tim Sills 45+1min

A long ball forward finds Delano Sam-Yorke and he chests it down for Sills. The striker shoots from the edge of the area and his effort finds the net via a slight deflection off Mark Haines.

A mistake at the back almost gifts Town a goal. Stuart Searle and Mark Haines get in a muddle and the ball breaks for Delano Sam-Yorke, but the goalkeeper does brilliantly to get back and make a vital block to deny him.

Donovan Simmonds' attempts at an audacious bicycle kick flies well over. Leave that to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Tim Sills attempts to feed Delano Sam-Yorke in the area but the pass lacks the pace to reach the striker.

Chelmsford have a spell of pressure, with Town just about clearing their lines - but the break is on.

Delano Sam-Yorke just fails to get away from Kenny Clark but the ball breaks for Simon Dunn and his low shot forces Stuart Searle into the first save of the match. It was a pretty comfortable one though.

Good feet by Delano Sam-Yorke in the area but his attempted pass towards Nathan Smart is too strong, going out for a goal-kick.

After a lengthy spell with only 10 men, Town are back to a full complement, Jay Gasson returning to the field complete with Terry Butcher-style bandage.

There's a bit of a break from the action as Jay Gasson is being treated for a head injury.

Wes Daly nearly links up with Delano Sam-Yorke, the ball just skipping away from the striker off a greasy surface and through to Stuart Searle.

At the other end, Sam Corcoran shoots from distance but it's miles over the bar.

Matt Warner's cross to the far post almost finds Nathan Smart, Aiden Palmer having to head the ball behind for the first corner of the match.

Warner puts the ball in and Stuart Searle's punch is not convincing - but Chelmsford get the ball away.

Wes Daly is perhaps fortunate to get away with a risky pass to Nathan Smart but the winger is in space and makes ground to the Chelmsford area. His low ball in finds Tim Sills but the striker is unable to control it.

Delano Sam-Yorke wins a free-kick in a promising position just to the left of the Chelmsford area - but Wes Daly's ball in is easily claimed by Stuart Searle in the visitors' net.

That's a good pass by Nathan Smart to release Delano Sam-Yorke down the right and it takes a decent tackle from Kenny Clark to halt the Town forward. It's been a high tempo start.

Chelmsford get the game under way. They are shooting towards the Town End during the first half under cloudy skies at the Camrose.

Jason Bristow names the same team that drew with Boreham Wood on Monday, while Chelmsford have former Town goalkeeper Stuart Searle between the sticks and another Basingstoke old boy, Nicholas Bondon, on the bench.

Town: Bayes, Rice, Warner, Bergqvist, Gasson, Lake, Daly, Smart, Sills, Sam-Yorke, Dunn. Subs: Brown, Campbell, Holder-Spooner, McAuley, McDonnell.

Chelmsford: Searle, Brindley, Palmer, Haines, Clark, Corcoran, Edmans, Rainford, Slabber, Cornhill, Simmonds. Subs: Bondon, Calver, Onega, Tann, Welsh.

Good afternoon and welcome to live updates from the Camrose, where struggling Basingstoke Town are hosting Blue Square Bet South high-fliers Chelmsford City.
