BASINGSTOKE Town produced a much-improved performance to draw 1-1 at Blue Square Bet South high-fliers Boreham Wood on Monday night.

The visitors took the lead after just two minutes, when Boreham Wood goalkeeper James Russell made a hash of Wes Daly's free-kick delivery, the ball finding the net via the back of Tim Sills.

Town had the better of the early stages but the hosts improved as the game went on and were inches away from levelling just after the break, Graeme Montgomery hitting the post with a fine effort from 20 yards.

It looked like the visitors might hold on for an unexpected win - but Boreham Wood levelled from the penalty spot 14 minutes from time. Robert Rice brought down Greg Morgan and Omar Riza sent Ashley Bayes the wrong way to earn a point.
