OLD Basing moved up to sixth in Hampshire Cricket League County Division Three, beating hosts Longparish by two wickets with just three balls to spare.

The home side looked on course for a big total after an opening stand of 143, but they were pegged back and finished on 229-8.

The village side's reply was led by Dan Turner (77) and Nick Cooper (41), who shared a fifth-wicket stand of 92 to help Basing to winning score of 232-8.

Basingstoke and North Hants III suffered a 53-run defeat at the hands of visiting Liphook and Ripsley II.

The visitors were bowled out for 243 with Joe Oates (3-37) the pick of the home bowlers. Despite knocks of 65 from Andy Neal and 44 from Nick James, the Bountymen were dismissed for 190 in reply.

Hook and Newnham Basics II returned to winning ways with an eight-wicket success away at St Cross Symondians III in Division One.

The home side were bowled out for 183 as Kishore Palmar (4-37) did most of the damage. Openers Sam Bruin (50) and Graham Buckingham (42) laid the foundation for the victory as Hook knocked off the winning runs in 23 overs.

The big game in Division Three North between leaders Hobos and third-placed Hook and Newnham Basics III fell victim of the weather, as did AWE Tadley's match against East Woodhay.

The two games in the division involving local sides saw defeats for both Hartley Wintney II and Overton.

Hartley went down by five wickets at OTs and Romsey after they were bowled out for 127.

It was a much closer game for Overton as they only lost by three runs at South Wilts III.

South Wilts were 97-4 after Nick Tomlin took 3-50, but an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership saw them finish on 263-4.

Overton had a great fourth wicket partnership of their own Lewis Watts (82) and Andy Galvin (66) putting on 138, but they came up just short, finishing on 260-8.

In Division Four North, Oakley lost by one wicket at Hurstbourne Priors, despite three wickets each for Tommy Holbrook and Clive Welsman.

The village side were bowled out for 121, but it would have been a lot worse if not for a ninth wicket stand worth 50 between Jimmy Bright (27) and George Lethaby (24).

In the other game in the division, Whitchurch were bowled out for 92 as they chased Whiteparish's 110-8.
