Shaun delighted to be back at the Bowl
BASINGSTOKE-based cricketer Shaun Udal will return to the Rose Bowl later this month looking for silverware with his new county Middlesex.
The Crusaders booked their place at the Twenty20 Cup finals at Hampshire's home on Saturday, July 26, after a 12-run victory over Lancashire on Tuesday night.
The finals will see a full day of cricket, with two semi-finals, followed by the final under the floodlights, with the finalists booking a place in the Champions League this autumn.
The 39-year-old spent 21 years at Hampshire, during which time he bagged winners medals in the Gillette Cup, Benson and Hedges Cup and Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy.
He is now delighted to be returning to the Rose Bowl.
He said: "It is just incredible - we were real underdogs going into the competition, but we have played some fantastic cricket. It is ironic the finals are at the Rose Bowl, which to me is always going to be home.
"I am sure there will be plenty of Hampshire supporters at the final. I hope they come in our pink colours and cheer us on. I just can't wait."
Middlesex booked their place thanks to a superb innings from Dawid Malan, who struck 103 off 54 balls, which included six sixes and 10 fours.
Udal failed to contribute with the bat as he was bowled first ball by good friend Andrew Flintoff in the final over of the Crusaders' innings, which finished on 176-7.
Udal said: "He caught me out bowling at the base of the stumps, but we only had two balls left so I had to swing the bat."
In reply, Lancashire fell short, making 164-8, with Flintoff the top scorer with 53.
The full line-up for the semi-finals of the Twenty20 Cup is still unknown, but Middlesex and Essex have already booked their places.
Reigning champions Kent were due to be in action at Edgbaston last night against Warwickshire.
Who will take the other place in the final four will become a lot clearer today as the ECB Discipline Commission panel will decide on the outcome of the Durham/Yorkshire quarter-final.
The game at the Riverside was cancelled on Monday night, after it was revealed that Yorkshire had fielded an ineligible player, Azeem Rafiq, in a Twenty20 Cup group game against Nottinghamshire, which they won.
