HOOK and Newnham Basics geared up for the T20 Cup semi-final at Alton today in fine fashion with a 71-run victory at home to Rowledge.

The home side got off to a great start thanks to openers Ben Thane (48) and Josh Buckingham (54) put on 104 for the first wicket.

Matt Buckingham (20) and Matt Love (29) kept the scoreboard ticking, before Nick Willcock took up the mantle with a superb 75 not out, which helped Hook to 253-6.

The Rowledge reply suffered the early loss of Jake Wish trapped leg before by Rupert Armstrong, before Nick Morant (38) and Tom Treble (30) moved the score to 72.

The spin twins of Kevin Poulter (1-19) and Anik Divecha (2-41) then got amongst the wickets as the visitors soon found themselves 86-4.

Ian Metcalfe (61) tried to keep the visitor’s in the game, but after Thane (2-16) had taken a couple of wickets in the middle order, Shane Brewer (3-31) returned to mop up the tail as Rowledge were all out for 182.
