HOOK and Newnham Basics booked their place in the second round of the Southern League T20 Cup, as they cruised to an eight wicket win at Fair Oak.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat and it took the visitors just four balls to strike.

Opener Greg Stewart being caught behind by Josh Buckingham to give Shane Brewer (2-35) his first wicket.

Fair Oak were soon 11-2 as Brewer struck again and Liam Doran (1-16) removed Gregor Mckenzie with only 15 more runs added.

The Hook bowlers continued to have the upper hand, thanks to good spells from Rupert Armstrong (0-18) and Kevin Poulter (2-13).

Rufus Bullough (24) and Will Hughes (24) top scored for the home side, as they reached 101-7 from their 20 overs.

In the Hook reply, captain Ben Thane led by example, with a superb unbeaten 48 from 43 balls, which included eight fours.

Jordan Hobday (7) and Matt Buckingham (11) were two batsmen out, but once Matt Love (24) joined Thane, the pair shared an unbroken stand of 61, as they won the game with six overs to spare.
