HOOK and Newnham Basics enjoyed their first home win of the season in the Southern League Division One, as they beat visiting Rowledge by eight wickets.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bat, but were soon in trouble as both openers were back in the pavilion with just seven on the board.

This was thanks to Hook’s opening bowlers Shane Brewer (3-27) and Jordan Hobday (1-6).

Kieran Thomson (2-42) joined the attack and Rowledge looked in big trouble at 35-6.

Former Hartley skipper Jamie Teale (30) then joined Sam Moseley (75 not out) and the pair settled the ship, as they added 56 for the seventh wicket, before Teale was bowled by Ben Thane.

Rowledge then moved their score into three figures before Rich Willcock (2-18) took two quick wickets.

An excellent last man stand of 45 between Ben Wish (13) and Moseley finally took the score to 151.

Hook made a solid start to their innings as openers Thane (30) and Thomson put on 52 for the first wicket.

Thane was the first man out and Jordan Hobday then departed for a duck as Richard Forbes (2-28) snapped up both wickets.

The small wobble was soon over as Thomson (73) and Matt Love (50) guided Hook to victory with 16 overs to spare.

Hook will look to make it three wins on the trot, when they entertain former leaders Sarisbury next weekend.
