HARTLEY Wintney were 129-8 when rain stopped play in their opening home fixture of their Southern League Division One campaign against Sarisbury Athletic.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, but were soon in trouble as Chris Saunders (3-16) reduced them to 41-5, with Will Kerr (19) the only player in the top five to make double figures.

Top scorer Scott Baldwin (38 not out) and Will Ross (24) stopped the rot with a 61-run fifth wicket stand, before Ross was trapped leg before by Sam Hill (2-8).

Dan Wrenn hit a 10-ball 11, being the only other player to make double figures.

Next weekend, Hartley are at near neighbours Hook and Newnham Basics.
