ANIK Divecha enjoyed a six wicket haul as Hook and Newnham Basics continued their winning run with a 45 run success at Ventnor in the Southern League Division One.

The Isle of Wight side were bowled out for 213 as they tried to chase down the visitor’s 258-6.

Hook won the toss and elected to bat and openers Ben Thane (34) and Matt Love (30) they made a steady start.

Both were then victims of Schaughn van Greunen (2-53), but then the score was 75.

Richard Willcock (21) and Jordan Hobday moved the score onto three figures and when Willcock departed, Hobday and Matt Buckingham really turned the screw as they took the score onto 182-4.

Hobday’s 46 ball stay at the centre was worth 69 runs and included 11 fours.

Buckingham continued to keep the scoreboard ticking as he finished unbeaten on 61 from 67 balls as Hook made 258-6 from their 50 overs.

The Ventnor reply was held together by Jamie Miller with an unbeaten 110 from 99 balls.

He came to crease with score on 94-3 and was only one of three Ventnor players to score double figures, the other two being the openers.

Ben Herridge being run out by Matt Buckingham for 16 and Rob Snell (38) who was first for Divecha (6-24), as well as the first of five catches for wicket keeper Josh Buckingham.

Despite the efforts of Miller, wickets continued to fall as Ventnor slumped to 145-9.

Last pair Miller and George Willis (8) moved the score past 200, but their partnership was ended in the 49th over, still a long way short of their target.

Next weekend, Hook will be hoping to make it three wins on the trot when they entertain Sarisbury Athletic.
