GEORGE Metzger has been selected to represent the South and West Region in the forthcoming English Cricket Board’s Bunbury Under-15 Cricket Festival at Stowe School from July 16 to July 21.

This is one of the most prestigious junior cricket tournaments in the country, which many future England stars of the game have played in.

This includes the likes of Andrew Flintoff and Graeme Swann, along with current England stars Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

Metzger will be playing five matches during the festival, which will include three 50 over games and two days of 20/20 matches.

These will be against teams from London and South East, The Midlands and The North Region.

The 15-year-old Costello School pupil plays for Basingstoke and North Hants first team in the Southern League Premier League and on a number of occasions this season he has opened the batting He is also a member of Hampshire under-15, 16 and 17 teams.

The selection process to be picked for the Bunbury tournament started in April ,which saw Metzger from Lychpit play trial games in Wales, Somerset, Devon and Wiltshire.

The Basingstoke wicket keeper/batsman scored a 100 not out and also an unbeaten 53 with the bat, as well as wicketkeeping in most of the trial games.

He is the only wicketkeeper selected in the final squad of 14 and also included in the South and West Region squad are two of his Hampshire teammates Fletcha Middleton and Tom South.

The rest of the squad comes from Wales, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and Devon.

After his trip to Stowe School, next month Metzger will be playing for the South West of England and Wales versus West Indies under-15s as his busy summer continues.
