TEENAGER cricketer Harry Came from Old Basing was named Southern League Young Player of The Year at the awards dinner held last Friday.

Last season, Came played for St Cross Symondians Cricket Club in the top tier of the Southern League and finished the summer as their top batsman.

He was also third overall in the Premier Division scoring 353 runs from nine games at an average of 44.12 with his highest knock being 106.

The 19-year-old moved to St Cross from Hook and Newnham Basics, where he spent his first campaign of senior cricket, helped them to second in the table.

He was forced to leave one of the top Southern League Division One outfit, after being told if he wanted to play county cricket, he would have to play in the Premier Division.

Came’s long term ambition is to become a professional cricketer and he flew out to Cape Town at the beginning of October to play for Claremont Cricket Club on Saturdays Came is also looking forward to joining the Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy from the start of November.

He will then remain there for the whole of the winter and will be training there until mid March of 2018.
