HOOK and Newnham Basics were T20 cup giantkillers as they sent one of the favourites to win the competition Bashley crashing out at the quarter-finals.

The Premier Division New Foresters travelled to north Hampshire hoping to repeat their previous round victory at Basingstoke, but found Josh Buckingham and Ben Thane too hot to handle.

The opening pair for Hook smashed 132 in a superb first wicket stand, thanks to Buckingham (82) and Thane (50).

The home side continued to pile on the runs thanks to Matt Buckingham (25), Ben Allnutt (14) and Matt Love (17) as they finished on 203-5 from their 20 overs.

Bashley were soon in trouble in their reply after a run out from Kevin Poulter and Shane Brewer took 3-24 as the visitors found themselves 30-5.

Chris Ridley (33) and Simon Watkins (71) tried to get the Premier side back into the game, but Rhodes Franklin (2-40) and Ben Thane (2-21) put Hook back in control.

It was left to Anik Divecha (2-25) to complete the job as Bashley were all out for 148, losing by 55 runs.
