Hampshire head coach Craig White has challenged his side to show they have learnt from their Kent defeat.

James Vince’s side has an early chance to bounce back from Tuesday’s five-run loss, which White was at a loss to explain.

“We should have won with two overs to spare but got bogged down,” he said.

“We were cruising then somehow very quickly got to the last few overs needing tens. It was too much for us and it’s disappointing.

“Instead of someone taking the bull by the horns we knocked it around and got twos and threes off overs where we should have got seven or eight.

“We had youngsters out there in a tight situation, hopefully they’ve learnt from that and we can put things right at Lord’s.”

With two defeats and a no result from their last three home games, Hampshire are looking forward to the change of scene.

Especially as they won their only previous T20 game at Lord’s in 2015, when Michael Carberry’s unbeaten 72 helped ensure a 21-run win against a Middlesex side including Kyle Abbott.

Shahid Afridi will be playing his first game at Lord’s since his 22-ball 37 helped Pakistan come from 2-0 down to level their one-day series against England in 2010.

The Middlesex game is the first half of a double header against two teams below them in the Natwest T20 Blast’s south group.

Hampshire have named a 15-man squad for both matches: Vince, Rossouw, Alsop, Bailey, Dawson, McManus, Afridi, Berg, Abbott, Wood, Crane, Topley, Wheal, Ervine, Edwards.

Hampshire fans at tomorrow’s game at home to Essex (7pm) will have the chance to win a trip for two with flights on a seven night all-inclusive package at Almond Beach Resort, Barbados, courtesy of partners Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.

To be in with a chance of winning, spectators only need to be in attendance at the Ageas Bowl on Friday with a valid match ticket or membership card.
