LEADERS Basingstoke and North Hants second team remain on course for the Southern League Division Three title, after beating visiting Gosport Borough by 29 runs.

The home side batting first recovered from being 24-2 to reach 181-4, thanks to excellent knocks from Scott Dyer (63) and Matt Deadman (52), well supported by Richard Vinn (32) and Craig Williamson (23).

Jacob Harris (4-34) was the top visiting bowler as Basingstoke were all out for 244.

Gosport’s reply got off to a good start thanks to Charlie Pennicott (14) and Tom Larner (50), but both were out with the score on 65, thanks to Harry Smith (3-33) and Scott Dyer (2-33).

Greg Kitchin (73) kept the visitors in the contest being the last man out, as he ran out of partners.

Chris Jolley (3-49) and a wicket each from Chris Chandler and Keith Harris, saw Gosport bowled out for 215.

The Bountymen are away at promotion chasing Purbrook next weekend.
