QUEEN Mary’s College beat last season’s finalists Alton and Farnborough to secure a place in Friday’s Hampshire Colleges Altham Trophy against King Edward VI (Southampton) at the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground, which starts at 1pm.

Basingstoke and North Hants' Joe Oates hit an unbeaten 86 in the eight-wicket win over Alton, but injured last man Richard Barrett was the hero of the Farnborough win, hitting a four and a straight six in the final over.

Coach Andy Pryce said: “Richard left the field earlier after tearing his hamstring severely in his second over with the ball.

“Batting with a runner, he went in at the end when we needed seven to win off the last over.

“He collapsed in pain after hitting the bowler back over his head for four and when he eventually got up, he hit the next ball for a straight six to win the game - and collapsed again.”

Queen Mary’s College cup final squad is J Oates (captain), M Deadman, A Neal, M Eldridge, J Weir, J Coombs, T Jackson, N Green, A Stringer, J Pavey, R Barrett, A McMahon, T Savage, N Dow, R Nicholas.

Results: Farnborough 111-4 (Hall 43 no, Neal 1-5) QMC 116-9 (Eldridge 24), Alton 125-9 (Cann 41, Neal 2-9) QMC 130-2 (Oates 86 no), Barton Peveril 100 (Dow 4-12) QMC 105-2 (Deadman 38 no, J. Oates 31).
