BASINGSTOKE and North Hants are the early leaders of the Southern League Division One, after they continued their perfect start to the campaign with a 53 run victory over visiting Calmore Sports last weekend.

This Saturday, the Bountymen are on their travels to Sarisbury Athletic looking to maintain their 100 per cent record.

They make one change to their line-up which won last weekend with Scott Dyer returning in place of Chris Oliver, so the side will be the same as the one which beat Ventnor.

Captain Mitch Stokes said: "We have had a good start to league and we want to carry this on putting up good scores and bowling well."

Against Calmore the home side batting first recovered from 103-5 to 241-8 thanks Will Phillips 79 (80 balls, 11 fours) and Dave Griffiths 71 (56 balls, nine fours).

The Calmore reply got off to the worst possible start as Mitch Stokes (3-28) took a wicket with the first ball.

The visitors struggled to 85-7, before a century from Ben Johns saw them finish on 188-8.

On Sunday, a fine 60 from George Metzger was all in vain as Basingstoke were knocked out of the Club Championship, beaten at Havant by four wickets.

Put into a bat, the Bountymen were all out for 169 which proved not to be enough as the home side reached 170-6.

Stokes said: "The pitch was uncovered overnight and I think the toss was vital as it was always going to be more difficult for the side batting first."
