HAMPSHIRE will be taking on the Royal London One-Day Cup’s form team when they play Somerset at Taunton tomorrow (11am).

Somerset, who narrowly lost in last year’s semi-finals to eventual winners Warwickshire, are the only county to have won all their 50-over games this season and sit atop the RLODC’s south group after four successive victories.

Kyle Abbott will be targeting the scalp of former South Africa teammate Dean Elgar, Somerset’s left-handed opening batsman, who is the south group’s top scorer with 350 runs at 116.66.

Unlike Abbott, who retired from international cricket to sign for Hampshire as a Kolpak in January, Elgar is playing as an overseas player.

He is using his second stint with Somerset, where he has replaced Chris Rogers, to prepare for the Proteas’ forthcoming Test series against England.

Elgar is one of four players to have scored match-winning centuries for Somerset in the competition,

Somerset began it by chasing down 291 to beat Surrey by four wickets at Taunton, thanks to Roelof van der Merwe’s unbeaten 165.

Then Elgar followed his 68 against Surrey with 131 not out as Somerset piled up 303-5 against Sussex, which was enough to win by nine runs following a Duckworth-Lewis calculation.

Kent were disposed of by four wickets at Taunton thanks to Peter Trego’s 135 and last Friday Jim Allenby’s unbeaten 144 helped the Cidermen amass 338-3 before beating Glamorgan by 170 runs.

Hampshire climbed back into the top four by bouncing back from successive defeats to Essex and Middlesex with a comfortable win against Gloucestershire on Sunday.

That was after dropping Michael Carberry, who was replaced by Jimmy Adams after making nine runs from the first three matches. They are expected to be unchanged tomorrow.

With nine wickets at 24.22, Mason Crane is the leading spinner in this season’s One-Day Cup while Craig Overton (ten wickets at 15.2) is Somerset’s biggest threat with the ball.

Lewis Gregory (back) is a doubt for he home side after missing the win against Glamorgan on Friday, when he was replaced by Dutch seamer Paul van Meekeren.

Hampshire (probable 13): Adams, Alsop, Vince, Bailey, Dawson, Ervine, McManus, Berg, Abbott, Crane, Topley, Holland, Carberry.

Somerset (possible 13): Davies, Allenby, Trego, Elgar, Hildreth, Hose, Van Der Merwe, C Overton, Davey, Groenewald, Waller, can Meekeren, Waller.
