HAMPSHIRE are aiming to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they take on Middlesex in their first floodlit match of 2017 at The Ageas Bowl today (2pm).

After beginning their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign with a six-wicket win against Kent at Canterbury last week, James Vince’s side crashed to a 25-run loss when overseas star George Bailey made his debut against Essex at Chelmsford.

Chasing 305, Hampshire were bowled out for 279 with ten balls remaining on Sunday.

Hampshire captain James Vince said: “We did OK but we weren’t at our best. The main difference was we didn’t have someone to go on and get a big score.

“Ideally you go on and get 80 or 100. I don’t think 305 was a lot to chase.

“The way the boundaries are at Chelmsford, and it was a pretty good pitch, at the halfway stage we would have taken that.”

Hampshire’s bowlers conceded 82 off the last 10 overs, and Vince admitted: “It is a lot. A few of them were leading edges that went for six.

“With the boundaries as small as they are that can happen. We’ll take this one on the chin and hopefully bounce back against Middlesex.”

Hampshire have named an unchanged 13-man squad for today’s game, with former Middlesex trio George Bailey, Kyle Abbott and Gareth Berg all included.

Bailey, who made 63 at Essex, will be making his first appearance for Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl since 2013 and Mason Crane his first since his stellar winter.

Rilee Rossouw (finger) and Fidel Edwards (hamstring) remain unavailable, while Chris Wood and Brad Wheal have side strains.

Middlesex are without four players due to England’s first one-day international against Ireland at Bristol on Friday.

England ODI captain Eoin Morgan and fast bowler Steven Finn are unavailable while Paul Stirling, who hit 71 and 26 in Middlesex’s first two RLODC games, and Tim Murtagh are with the Ireland squad.

But Middlesex have three players available again.

Added to the squad are former England batsman Nick Compton, following a shoulder injury, James Harris, after returning from a loan spell at Kent, and Ollie Rayner, who missed the first two games with a finger injury.

Middlesex are looking for their first win after defeat against Gloucestershire and an abandonment against Sussex.
