Fidel Edwards took a wicket with his first delivery for Hampshire in 11 months.
The 35 year-old fast bowler bowled Riki Wessels with his first ball for the county since recovering from the broken ankle he suffered at Headingley last April.
Edwards (5-2-15-1) shared the new ball with new signing Kyle Abbott (6-1-24-1), who bowled former England wicketkeeper Chris Read (14), before Nottinghamshire closed on 121-3 in the third innings of the Barbados tour match.
It was also a good day for Hampshire with the bat.
Jimmy Adams and Lewis McManus followed Michael Carberry's lead with half-centuries as Hampshire made 295-3 in reply to Notts' 279-3.
Adams, who shared an opening stand of 84 with Carberry (58) on day one of the tour match in Barbados, made 86 (209 balls, 12 fours, one six).
He retired following a fourth-wicket stand of 75 with McManus,who faced 118 balls for his unbeaten 76, which included 12 fours.
Wicketkeeper-batsman McManus added an unbroken 78 in 21 overs with Gareth Berg, whose 43-ball 39 not out featured six fours.
Samit Patel (19-3-69-2)took the only Hampshire wickets to fall on day two; Will Smith (22) and Sean Ervine (11).
The former England slow left-armer then top scored with 59 as Notts made 121-3 in their second innings, before he was bowled by former Notts teammate Smith.
