Mason Crane took his 50th first-class wicket to finish with the third-best match figures of his career on his Sheffield Shield debut.

The 20 year-old leg-spinner claimed 3-66 in the third innings - match figures of 27.2-0-116-5 - after dismissing wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey for the second time in the match.

South Australia were all out for 304 when Carey was lbw to Crane, who was only required to bowl a brief spell (4.1-0-12-1) on the final day.

Requiring 100 to win, New South Wales won by eight wickets after reaching their target in just 13 overs.

Crane, who took  5-81 against Warwickshire on his home debut for Hampshire in July 2015, finished with his best figures since taking 6-89 against Nottinghamshire last May.

He had claimed the wickets of Callum Ferguson (103) and Jake Lehmann (46) in a very impressive third spell (7-0-20-2) as South Australia closed the penultimate day on 228-5 - a lead of 23.

Ferguson was caught at point by Pat Cummins and Lehmann, the son of Australia coach Darren Lehmann, was plumb lbw.

Crane is New South Wales' first overseas player since Imran Khan in 1984/85 and is now preparing to play alongside Hampshire teammates James Vince, Tom Alsop and Liam Dawson in county cricket's eagerly-anticipated South v North three-match one-day series next week.
