HAMPSHIRE all-rounder Liam Dawson is determined to bowl through the pain barrier during the last two days of the season.

The slow left-armer took 2-60 from 21 overs against Durham but damaged to his spinning finger is likely to affect his wicket-taking ability as the match against Durham progresses.

Dawson said: “My finger is a bit sore, but that’s no excuse. The umpires say bowling with tape on it is now allowed - as long as their consistent with that then fair enough.

“I just have to find a way over the next couple of days to hopefully get a few more wickets.

“I’ve got to keep landing the ball in a consistent area and hopefully one does spin.

“We’re still 160 runs ahead but this is a wicket where things can happen very quickly.

“You get a partnership and go bang-bang and a new batsman can be out.

“We are still ahead of the game but we need take three quick wickets in the morning, bat quickly and set a score.

“We’ve got to wrap up the tail, see where are and hopefully take ten wickets on the last day.”

Hampshire are well aware of events at Edgbaston, where more than 30 overs have been lost to the weather on the first two days.

But Warwickshire’s first-innings lead of 67 and a good weather forecast for the midlands means a draw is unlikely to be enough for Hampshire.

“There is going to be a result at Warwickshire but we are in a good position here,” added Dawson, who began the day by passing fifty in the Championship for the fifth time this season.
