BASINGSTOKE and North Hants suffered their second defeat of the weekend, as they lost by seven wickets in the first round of the T20 Cup at Bashley (Rydal).

The home side won the toss and put the visitors into bat and they lost opener Dan Belcher first ball trapped leg before by Ryan Macciocchi (2-15).

Fellow opener Max Harsham (22) was the only batsman in the top four to get any runs and it was left to skipper Martyn James (59) to top score with a superb half century off 52 balls, which saw him hit three sixes and three fours.

In the end the Bountymen reached 131-7 from their 20 overs.

Chasing a low total, Bashley were soon in trouble thanks to an excellent opening spell from James (2-19) and Neal (1-15) which had the home side reeling at 10-3.

However, an unbroken fourth wicket stand between Chris Vaughan (53) and Chris Ridley (50) booked Bashley place in round two as they won with over three overs to spare.
