FIELDING practice will be the order of the day for Hook and Newnham Basics ahead of their trip to Andover.

This was after Hook dropped four catches in their 51-run loss to Liphook and Ripsley.

Hook skipper Matt Love said: “We will certainly be doing some catching practice this week, as we pride ourselves in being a good fielding side.”

“We have not had the start to the season I was looking for, but we have the players to turn things around I am sure. We are not a bad side.”

This week, opener Ben Thane is back for the north Hampshire derby game and Matt Buckingham could also be included, while Harry Came, who has impressed in his two weeks with the team is unavailable.

Last weekend, Hook had hoped to build on their victory from the previous week and looked in a good position with Love (60) and Nick Willcock (35) in the centre.

However, the introduction of former Hartley Wintney all-rounder Dan Wrenn (4-29) saw the home side’s hopes ended.

Love was clean bowled by Wrenn and then Josh Buckingham (6) followed soon after, as Chaz Janczur (3-35) claimed his third wicket of the game.

With Nick Willcock still at the centre they had a chance, but when he was the seventh man, as Wrenn struck again, the writing was on the wall.

With the run rate increasing, Rhodes Franklin (10) and Shane Brewer (8) tried to hit out, but in the end the home side were bowled out for 195.

Earlier, Liphook’s Suman Ganguly was dropped twice and made the home side pay for it with an unbeaten 99 which helped the visitors to 246-7.

On Sunday, Hook travel to Totton and Eling for a first round game in the T20 Cup.
