CHRIS Wood is confident of making a full recovery - after an operation by one of the country's best knee surgeons.

The Hampshire all-rounder’s season is over after undergoing the same operation on his right knee as that which he had on his left two-and-a-half years ago.

Wood, 25, missed the start of the 2014 season following a microfracture surgery in December 2013.

Similar cartilage damage to the left-arm seamer’s left knee, which takes most of the impact in his delivery stride, forced him to limp off in successive County Championship games before a second microfracture op in London last week.

The job was done by Andy Williams, the go-to knee specialist for most Premier League football and rugby clubs, as well as Southampton’s GB snowboarder Billy Morgan.

Wood is out of contract at the end of the season but is determined to be back, fully fit next year.

“The problem is probably genetic, apparently it was going to happen at some stage, but I don’t see why I shouldn’t make a full recovery,” he said.

“I’ve had no trouble with my right knee since the first op and my left feels better than the right did at the same stage after surgery.”
