JAMES Vince admits he is not convinced by the change to the traditional pre-match toss in the Specsavers County Championship.

The away team will be offered the chance to bowl first in all Championship matches this season, with the toss only taking place if the visiting captain wants to bat.

Vince, who is set to start his first season as Hampshire’s captain in all formats, is yet to be convinced by the change, which has been introduced in a bid to reduce the number of seamer-friendly green tops.

But he is looking forward to having the choice of bowling first at seamer-friendly Headingley a week tomorrow.

He said: “Initially I wasn’t a massive fan, I don’t see why home advantage should be taken away.

“If we’re batting first [against Warwickshire tomorrow] we have to get our heads around that.

“But the wicket looked and played all right during the uni game [against Cardiff MCCU] this week. And we go to Yorkshire next week.

“All we can do is focus on starting well in what is the strongest first division there’s been for a long time.”
