HAMPSHIRE batsman Michael Carberry made a stunning return to the Perth Scorchers line-up today.

Carberry had been let out of four successive KFC Big Bash t20 games prior to being revcalled for the clash with Hobart.

Coming in at number three, the 35-year-old hammered 62 off 35 balls with five fours and a six – reaching his half century off 30 deliveries.

It was his first innings since making just five in Perth’s first game of the tournament on December 5, and only his second T20 innings since Hampshire’s NatWest Blast semi final loss at Edgbaston last August.

Carberry’s knock helped Perth, the defending champions, total 173-5.

In a thrilling finish, Scorchers won by just a single run despite Darren Sammy slamming an unbeaten 28 off 12 balls for Hobart.

Carberry was voted man of the match – his second such Big Bash award.

His first had come almost a year earlier to the day, when he blitzed six sixes and six fours in a 36-ball unbeaten 77 against Brisbane Heat.
