HOOK and Newnham Basics paceman Spencer Champ received the Southern League Division One bowling award from former England captain Graham Gooch at the league’s presentation dinner.

Champ had a superb summer, where he captured 41 wickets and kept Hook in the promotion hunt, before they had to settle for second place.

Hook will be looking to cause an upset in this Sunday’s Hampshire indoor cricket sixes county finals at the Ageas Bowl.

If they beat Premier League duo Havant (2pm) and then Sarisbury Athletic (3.15pm) in back-to-back round-robin matches, they will regain their county title.

Hook booked their place in the finals after a two-wicket win over Hursley Park.

They appeared set for a comfortable win after bowling Hursley out for 71, but having progressed to 38-0, Hook lost three wickets for five runs and needed Matt Love’s unbeaten 34 to win it.
